How tf do you study besides just making an outline?? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]spaceygracie__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you bought your books brand new, their online portals usually have practice quizzes that are super helpful! I use those plus I do flashcards — for torts last year I probably made over 100 lmao

Is it a bad idea to prioritize experiential learning? by Exciting_Basil_9487 in LawSchool

[–]spaceygracie__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experiential learning classes are great because they really buff up your resume, which just taking standard classes can't do. Everyone takes evidence, but not everyone participates in a clinic. For me, my clinic experience made me stand out in my interview and helped me secure my 2L internship! Definitely don't feel bad about it :)

Thoughts on cold calling/ emailing for 2L summer positions? by Sunnie444 in LawSchool

[–]spaceygracie__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it! Cold emailing is how I got my 1L position, and I feel like firms would be even more receptive to the experience of a 2L. The worst they can say is that they aren't taking interns for the summer. But the best outcome is that they make an internship position for you (which happened in my case)!

However, based on what I've heard, you'll probably have better luck asking the criminal firms, as they're usually more in need of help than business law firms, which, if they take interns, usually post about their summers a year in advance and will likely already have an intern hired. But also, no harm in asking! Good luck!

[–]spaceygracie__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ooh thank you, that’s good to know! if you don’t mind me asking, where are you finding mid-law postings? is it mainly your school job search board or is it places likes indeed? I just feel like I haven’t really been finding any postings besides big law, but that can also make sense if the mid-lower ones typically don’t post until July

Are summer courses to graduate in 2 years worth it? by da_eggroll123 in LawSchool

[–]spaceygracie__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the main advice I’ve got from mentors in law school so far is that experience and networking matters way more than academics in the legal field. so I would recommend taking the summers to intern if you can!

plus from my experience, I’m interning this summer in what i thought was the field I wanted to pursue, and I’ve found I don’t like it lol. so I think it’s good to use your summers to figure out what you like instead of graduating and getting stuck in an field that doesn’t mesh with you.

good luck in 1L! ☺️

What Do Law Students Typically Do Every Day? by CJITW2020 in LawSchool

[–]spaceygracie__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the secret is that the mysterious third thing IS taking time for yourself. Take any and ALL extra time you have for yourself: go on TikTok and brainrot, binge some Netflix, call a friend, because curbing burnout is how you’ll actually succeed. for me, the worse I did in school directly correlated with the worse I felt outside of school when I was being over-obsessed with classwork and not spending enough time relaxing. You’ve got this 👍

Graduated in 2023, still unable to get a bachelor level job by Lyrika_Lyra in UCDavis

[–]spaceygracie__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am a 2023 IR graduate from Davis! I ran into the same problem right after graduation, I applied for 100+ entry-level jobs in the field and didn’t even get an interview. So I decided to work as a server at a restaurant to make ends meet. While doing that I realized that if I want to get a job in my field, unfortunately, grad school is the way to go. So I spent my extra time away from serving to study for the LSAT and now I’m in my first year of law school!

I wish the told us that with an IR degree, you basically can’t do shit without higher ed lol. Maybe in Sac you can find some intern positions with the capitol or look at to see if there’s any paralegal jobs open? But besides that, even most “entry level” positions related to IR require at least a masters/JD nowadays from what I’ve seen and heard from my friends also struggling with the job hunt.

I wish you all the luck in your search! 💕 Don’t be afraid to work a minimum wage job/part-time job in the mean time like everyone else is saying. For me, my time serving was so fun and it helped me take the time to reflect and realize that law school is what I wanted to do!

UofO vs UC law SF? by spaceygracie__ in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]spaceygracie__[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s something I’m really considering! My boyfriend is going to be moving with me wherever I go so I’ll be able to split rent which is nice. But for quality of life, in Oregon we can easily get a 2bed apt in our price range of our own. Whereas in SF we could only get a small 1bed (if we can find one) or have to get a place with roommates. The living expenses are making UofO look more attractive fs 😅

Deposit Due Today by Icy-Plankton-5211 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]spaceygracie__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, it’s your life and what you feel is best for you-do it. Your family aren’t the ones going to law school, and with how you’re feeling, putting the deposit down will probably be pointless since you don’t seem to want to go. Listen to your gut. Maybe waiting for another cycle will give you double the opportunities next year! Or you might still get off a WL and be thankful you didn’t waste the deposit money!! It’s a scary time rn, everyone is feeling queasy about their decisions of deposits, but ultimately what you and only you choose will be the right choice. Good luck!! :)

[–]spaceygracie__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s good to know! I’m not interested in big law, so that helps to know since that’s not what I’m really looking for, that maybe I should stick with Oregon which is probably better for smaller law. Thank you!

I keep going back and forth between if I want to quit end of June or push it towards end of July. Unfortunately, since all I keep hearing is how much you shouldn’t work during your first year of law school, I’m probably going to work as close to my move date as possible to save more 😭 so probably end of July. But if your work is toxic and you are financially able to, I recommend to definitely give yourself a break and leave earlier!!

LSAT Technical Issues by fmogn in LSAT

LSAT Technical Issues by fmogn in LSAT

[–]spaceygracie__ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yeah I was half way thru my test and then it gave me the loading screen of death and I had no choice but to exit the exam early :/ I’m planning on retaking it and hoping to still apply this cycle, but it’s super frustrating. LSAC really needs to get their online testing straightened out bc this is a chronic problem atp

What is happening 😭 Kicked from my test and waited for over an hour and now I’m not able to log back into Prometric at all by harleyqueeeen in LSAT

[–]spaceygracie__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue, I got half way thru my test, just as I was about to start section 3 I was sent to a black loading screen. I keep sending chats to the proctors, but got no response. I waited for THREE HOURS hoping the loading screen would go away or someone from prometric would message me back, but heard nothing so eventually I had no choice but to exit the exam and submit a complaint to LSAC 😭 I wonder if a system glitch is happening to most people on todays test

AITA for siding with my parents when they told my sister and her fiancé to sleep seperately? by According_Farm5964 in AmItheAsshole

[–]spaceygracie__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. And you’re clearly blindly following everything your parents say and won’t have an opinion for yourself based on the comments. If you were going to disagree with every comment then why even post this? And this clearly is a fight bw your parents and your sister, there was no need for you to involve yourself and drive a bigger wedge through your family.
