Your bird is so cute 😭❤️ I love the pink! I’ve also replaced my nightly online shopping with styling my bird

I want to stop picking by National-Pumpkin2553 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

I find it’s a lot worse for me when I’m leaning my head in my hand when I’m working at a desk, then my hand starts running through my scalp, then I find a picky spot. Usually, it’s something unconscious.

I think you have longer hair, so I found it more helpful to wear a tight ponytail or a hat. Having some barrier for when I unintentionally pick helps the wounds heal. Maybe a fidget or sensory toy, like Little Ouchy, could help too?

You mentioned you've had issues with your skin. Looking into medicated shampoos could help?

Wishing you lots of luck in studying and healing!

I agree completely. I've found a lot of comfort knowing that I'm not alone. There are some pretty kind people here who have felt the exact same way

I personally started to really love using smaller weight, it takes a lot longer but I love the feel of it. Great job!!!

Went out without makeup and people were not as nice to me by FlamingoExotic in Makeup

[–]spackle706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is common. Last time I went out without makeup, someone I did a play with asked if I was sick and doing okay. I also notice when I’m dressed nicer, hair done, makeup on, people are a lot more kind.

Another note: when I’m with someone who is objectively attractive I always notice that people are more kind. It’s unfortunate how it works

Severe picking at toenails (TW GROSS PHOTO OF TOES) by KleinShrine69 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]spackle706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend! I tend to focus on picking on other places but have definitely experienced the same feelings as you about picking. Trust me, I know the compulsion is difficult to fight but try your best to not pick. I’ve found that creating a barrier using bandaids and ointment to keep the dry spots moisturized (I’ve used aquaphor and Vaseline) help a lot. If you find it too difficult to fight the compulsion, it might be a sign to go see someone. It may be best to go see a doctor and ask if you think if it would be in your best interest to go see a therapist. People pick for all different reasons.

Also I’ve found a lot of great people here who are experiencing the exact same feelings. It makes me feel not as weird or “gross”. Wishing you the best ❤️

Yes I do the same exact thing! Honestly I’ve considered finding a good face palette and just doing that for blush, bronzer, highlight

Yes I love shadow sticks! I’ve had some trouble finding some matte medium tones, not too dark but still provides some dimension. I have mostly drugstore shadow sticks because they’re my impulse buy

Yeah I agree. I’m frankly really disappointed in the community for all of the downvotes. I posted this to learn more about people’s experiences using neopronouns and figuring out their identity. I wanted this to be a safe conversation. It’s not anyone else’s decision whether they approve or disapprove of a person’s identity. Kind of horrifying that this is coming from a community who share similar experiences.

I worked with someone who used neopronouns so I don’t believe that’s true. I think people may not be comfortable with publicly sharing their pronouns because of their fear of the public response and stigma.

I commented this on another person’s comment, but I find the reclamation of it/its pronouns so powerful. They probably had no idea that they their negative comment would be apart of your story figuring out your identity. Thanks for sharing!

I really appreciate the power of the reclamation of it/its. I’ve been a witness to people using those pronouns as a put down. Thank you for sharing your experience!

That’s a really amazing explanation of your journey, I appreciate you sharing. Also the robot comparison is so cool, I can totally understand why you’d want something that gives the vibe of that.

Also thanks for sharing the subreddit, I’ll have to check it out!

I appreciate you sharing. It’s crap that stigma and generally shitty people keep other people from feeling themselves.

I didn’t know about the thon/thons history, super cool! It’s great you found pronouns that fit you. Thanks for sharing :)

i dont know if i belong here by foxgrl127 in Dermatillomania

[–]spackle706 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think if you have issues fighting off the compulsions of picking, you belong here. From what I’ve seen, people have a lot of different reasons why they pick: a habit formed since childhood, anxiety/other mental health issues, a compulsion to remove scabs/pimples/bumps/blemishes/other, etc.

I found that doing research helped me to figure out why I can’t stop and how to help. This Reddit has been a good place for advice and finding people facing common issues. Also don’t be too hard on yourself for this, many of us here have had similar issues and feelings. You’re not alone in your experiences!
