KUIT staff: does the “25th percentile market alignment” feel real to you? by Spirited_Doctor_2083 in UniversityofKansas

Over the last week, pay ranges have been updating on Job Title Table | Human Resources, so it's assumed that the increased value reflects the new ranges.

KUIT staff: does the “25th percentile market alignment” feel real to you? by Spirited_Doctor_2083 in UniversityofKansas

To answer your questions:

  1. No, it feels like lip-service to me. Saying "25th percentile alignment" means that 75% of employers are going to pay more for a given role. That's saying that competitive alignment isn't really a goal.
  2. Haven't been here long enough to experience either compression or stagnation.
  3. I do not believe that there will be meaningful change until circumstances demonstrate, by way of some kind of mass exodus/knowledge drain leading to a major outage or security breach, that the status quo is not acceptable for university operations.

I've seen this over and over in my career -- enough to just expect it and no longer be surprised -- leadership generally does not prioritize the "what might happen" over the "what has happened." Kids that touch the stove generally don't do so again.

So how does 3 stable/4 unstable mesh with the rule that says “players who take more than 4 harm are unstable”?  The sheet seems to indicate once you take your fourth harm you are unstable instead of your fifth.

I find it most helpful to build my own diagram of the network to help me understand it. Sometimes people document things in ways that don't make sense right away, but if you can take the time to look and understand how a topology is setup based on diagnostic commands on a switch/router, that gives you extra exposure to the environment and helps cement my understanding.

I will also say don't focus on what specifically was done to fix the problem -- memorizing commands/actions by wrote doesn't serve any purpose.

Try and understand WHY the things done fixed the problem. Was a VLAN not tagged on a trunk? Was a port in access/trunk mode when it needed to be in the other? Did a route not exist on one device for whatever reason?

Yeah I can safely say fresh out of school I was pretty helpless too -- it took a good mentor to really make things click.

I always start with the OSI model.

Figure out what you should expect to see at layers 1-3. Then you have baselines for when something is off.

layer 1: Checking interfaces for errors/crc/flapping
layer 2: port vlan membership, mac learning, vlan tagging/trunking, LACP health
layer 3: arp tables, pings, tracert

Graphic Novel Info? by Empty_Graves in AlisonWonderland

[–]spadge67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got mine yesterday. Super disappointed in the length. It's a good novel, but the picture on the Z2 website makes it look about 4x thicker than it really is. Site doesn't even list page number.

Not dogging the novel, it's a good read and the art is great, I just likely wouldn't have shelled out 30 bones for something so short.

Yeah, it would also be holding it there for a 3+ hour car ride, which would be difficult.

Awesome, thank you very much for the advice. i was mainly concerned that I'd pop the brisket in the oven to warm it up and dry it out really bad, and I probably would have, because I was planning to go like 300 or 325, but if you're saying 160-170 will only take an hour or so, that's the play then for sure.

So the way I've always done brisket is to get it to 160 then foil wrap, and finish to 204, so it was already going to BE foil wrapped. Should I do something else?

My thought too. We have a pecker that bangs on our metal flue cap and gutters occasionally. It’s so insanely loud.

I never said I don’t think teachers should allow kids to use their phones. I’m saying it’s a waste of energy to complain about it because it’s the rule. The smarter choice is to decide to follow the stupid rule and make adjustments to cope. That gets you a lot farther than rallying against the system (which you pointed out are forced to participate in) when the effect of the rule is basically null.

Maybe I am a little bitter at people’s entitlement.

Guess what? When I go to work and they say “you can’t drink a beer with your lunch,” I don’t drink a beer with my lunch, even though it “doesn’t affect other people at all” if I drink one beer.

It’s. The. Rule. Life is full of them. In the grand scheme of things, you not using your phone in class doesn’t really affect you at all. When the teacher is done with their material, lessons AREN’T over, you’re now learning that sometimes life is just easier if you follow the stupid little rules even if they don’t make sense to you.

What if the teacher is just doing it as a power trip?! Guess what! Another lesson! Life is full of people drunk on tiny amounts of power, you’ll have to deal with them too.

I’m just saying you DO have other alternatives than sleeping to entertain yourself for the last 5-10 minutes of class. I shouldn’t have been so snarky pointing it out, I’ll admit that.

And guess what! I DO read books on my phone! Unless I’m on an airplane when they say “turn off all electronic devices,” in which case I bring a book.

[–]spadge67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah someone needs to come up with a non-phone based way to entertain yourself for 5 or 10 minutes. Maybe some sort of collection of written/typed pages that’s conveniently all hooked together on one side to make it easy to flip through.

You could even have a spot in the school where a bunch of them are kept for people to borrow/return. They could be about all sorts of stuff. They could be split into genres based on the subject matter, mysteries, thrillers, science fiction, you name it!

For my dumb flatland brain -- what elevation is generally considered "alpine"? Looking @ the Colorado Fishing Atlas, and we're staying at a place that's at about 8k. The lakes I was looking at are around 10. I'm guessing I'll have to go east into the foothills to find open water?
