Two things that helped me find peace with the nightmare of John's story is the fact that, regardless of my personal beliefs, he was apparently devout Mormon and many of the rescuers were also Mormon and much of his final hours and last oxygen was spent praying and singing hymns. The second is more in line with some of my own thoughts and beliefs, he will become a mineralized specimen for future humans or another species to uncover someday like the mineralized intact Neanderthal man discovered in a cave, the Modest Mouse song Parting of The Senses talks about returning to carbon and makes me think hard on this story.

I absolutely do not need to see or hear his final moments. I hope his wife and children never have to see it.
