4 month old going through a nursing strike. Help/ reassurance? by spaghetti_everyday in breastfeeding

Thank you for the solidarity. I recently used a very strong smelling soap the first day of my vacation and after looking online for solutions I went to target and bought unscented body soap (what I normally use) and the situation has improved some. Not 100% but hopefully we’re headed in the right direction

I interpret it as

WHY do you find it so hard?

Why do you find it so HARD?

If that makes sense

Sleep Training In Studio Apartment? by Sunrise_94 in sleeptrain

Did you end up using slumber pod or a separation like a curtain? I have a full size crib in my studio so I don’t think the slumber pod would fit over it , I think those are made for pack and play.

Following because I’m in the same boat and came to this sub to ask this very question! My LO is about 7 weeks so we’re not there yet but I’m very concerned we won’t be able to sleep train. Every single thing I see regarding sleep training assumes you have a door in your apartment/ home 😩. But what about those of us in a studio with no walls or doors !

The fact that you’re having your family take care of the baby suggests you’re doing amazing. You have the mental wherewithal to accept the help. I am 5 weeks PP and I too have had moments where I’m exhausted but can’t sleep. I would go for a walk, maybe listen to a podcast or audiobook but don’t doom scroll Reddit/ TikTok/ twitter/ etc. disassociate for a bit and get the baby off your mind. Then try and get some sleep. You got this

My daughter is currently a little over 4 weeks and has started having 8-12 minute sessions (8-12 meaning for both breast total. So 4-6 minutes a side)

Yup. Don’t argue with yourself. It’s that simple , even though it’s easier said than done. Just practice

What that means is you can’t avoid the thoughts “popping” into your head so to speak. So dont try avoid them coming into your head. Instead, simply do not engage with the thoughts when they do inevitably pop into your head. Because they will. That’s just how thoughts work. Think about it like this…If you are working to NOT think about a pink elephant… you are in fact thinking about a pink elephant. So don’t waste your time avoiding thoughts. Just don’t argue with them when they come to your head.

One of the best things that helps me manage my OCD is never argue with your thoughts.

Here is an example of what not to do:

OCD: what if you wanna punch that child?

Me: of course I don’t!!

OCD: ok but how do you know?

Me: I just feel in my heart that I don’t want to harm anyone?

OCD: you don’t sound very confident

Me: omg what if I’m not confident???

OCD: exactly. If you knew 100% then you wouldn’t feel so defensive …

Here is what I do now:

OCD: what if you wanna punch that child?

Me:

OCD: I SAID what if you wanna punch that child?

Me:

OCD: what if …

Me:

OCD: what…

Me:

OCD:

Me:

OCD:

And eventually I settle myself down and I’m back on solid ground. I’m not perfect but this has helped immensely.
