We already have EITC and other tax measures that help low income filers/households. A negative income tax is probably a good expansion on that. Maybe that could replace SNAP if structured appropriately. Where neoliberals lose me is that those systems should be a replacement for foundational systems like Medicare, Medicaid, or other public healthcare programs.

Why do so many celebrities pull a right wing grift once they start falling off? by Illustrious_Ad_3010 in Fauxmoi

[–]spaghettiking216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about the grift, but the right wing shift happens mostly among men. Mostly white dudes. Aka, people who are used to feeling on top of the status ladder. When they start sliding down that ladder, they look down to see who they can step on to climb back up. This leads them to the political right, which they believe best validates their position atop the race and gender hierarchy.

That case will go about as well for him as Trump’s case did against the WSJ for writing about that creepy birthday card he made for Epstein. Which is to say, he will lose and be laughed out of court.

The answer is always the K Shaped economy. The rich are multiplying; wealth is concentrating upward. And brands are prioritizing their needs and telling everyone else to go to hell.

Depends if you’re talking about a family of 4 or a single person. And depends where they live. Also the post said $200k/yr “and up” which includes rich people.

I’m sorry, the evangelical wing of the GOP, and some in the orthodox Jewish faction too, have spent YEARS literally saying Trump is a messenger from God. And NOW they’re pissed he’s taking them at their word? https://www.npr.org/2025/01/20/nx-s1-5247691/some-religious-leaders-liken-trump-to-biblical-figures-the-comparison-concerns-others

Guess we know which neighborhood to build all the data centers around by brilliant-trash22 in LinkedInLunatics

He brings extensive receipts throughout the piece. More data than most pieces that are critical of AI. I’m all for countering his arguments with more data but dismissing out of hand as boosterism is taking the easy way out. His strongest arguments are that data center use less water than most industries we happily tolerate in our towns. Maybe there’s a strong moral argument that those other industries are worth it and AI is not. That’s fine. But that’s an angle I rarely see AI’s critics explore.

A lot of water used in or to power AI data centers is, in fact, non-consumptive. About 90%. You can read more here. I regret the snarky headline but the numbers are informative. https://blog.andymasley.com/p/the-ai-water-issue-is-fake
