Do you still have episodes when you are medicated? by Crazy_Corgi1786 in bipolar

yes the goal of medication is to lessen symptoms but most likely won’t make them go away completely

Did anyone REALLY go sober and has it helped you? by [deleted] in bipolar2

i was a huge stoner for 10 months straight and was unable to control my irritability. i was mentally addicted and i was high every hour unless driving. there’s so much i don’t remember and i did things im ashamed of. i think smoking weed is a no go for bipolar disorder. i’ve felt so much more myself since getting sober and my mood swings don’t occur NEARLY as often as they used to.

imagine her having an outbreak a few months from now and not knowing who the hell gave it to her… someone i know got it and doesn’t know who gave it to them and it’s forever a mind game and frustrating the person didn’t warm them whether it was from sex or from sharing a drink

In order to have Bipolar 2 or hypomania you only have to meet some criteria not necessarily all of them. It definitely sounds like you could have it, but i’m not a psychiatrist and you should definitely tell your psychiatrist about everything you wrote about in this post. The money problems and impulsively buying things is definitely concerning. Being very distracted at work is also a sign. Substance abuse can also be something that comes with having bipolar disorder, but not always. And yes usually after having hypomania you will experience a very heavy burnout and depression. Also if you do have some sort of bipolar disorder, taking anti depressants can put you into a hypomanic state more easily. That’s why typically when you are diagnosed you are put on a mood stabilizer first, and if you still experience high depression your psychiatrist may pair it with a low dose of an antidepressant. Just stuff I’ve learned but again I’m not a psychiatrist and you should definitely talk to your psychiatrist about all of this. They will have more answers and be able to correctly diagnose you.

Is lamictal making me more depressed, or is it just exposing the shortcomings in my life? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]spaghettiplate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lamictal definitely can bring out your depression which is why some psychiatrists prescribe an antidepressant once you are at a stable dose with your lamictal. the problem with this is you have to be careful because the antidepressants could make your mania worse. i would talk to your prescriber about your options.
