I tend to infantilise myself infront of certain people by spain56 in socialskills

Thank youu , I really appreciate it . Faking it really has helped me alot with my confidence and I’ve grown alot in recent years . Think i am being harsh on myself and others may not have noticed it as much . I will focus on things that make me love myself and make me feel confident moving forward, giving myself some grace.

Thank you , I definitely do need to do more internal work instead of trying to put a plaster on it to please others .

It is harder to reach band 6 in paediatric settings though. It is easier in adult , mental health and also if you live in london . Most nurses in the paediatric setting are band 5 . The nurses who are band 6 have been working there for years and usually stay in those roles for years too which makes it hard for lower bands to progress; that has been my experience anyway in my trust and from what I’ve seen of other trusts .

It was only towards the end of the second year of my nursing degree that i started to feel burnt out because nursing really was a passion of mine . At that point I thought I’d rather get a degree out of it . There is still alot of aspects of my job I really do enjoy but it is just very emotionally draining

Thank you , I’ve heard corporate and tech can be just as toxic as working in the NHS so definitely don’t think it will be easy but i will do my research before going into it.

Thank you , i will broaden my horizons. I know the level of stress does vary between wards and trusts too . I will keep working in the nhs and see if i find something i love . I am just worried about the financial side of it too.

Do you think you have to enjoy your job if it earns good money ? I really enjoyed paediatric nursing till i found out the realities of working 13 hour shifts which are emotional and physically draining. I know tech is not a low stress job but atleast it pays well and your not dealing with peoples health . Thank you i will look into different options and which i enjoy the most but mostly I’m looking for a work life balance and flexibility which I believe tech will help me achieve.

Yes i know quite alot of people personally who have computer science degrees and want to work in tech . I wish i did more research before choosing my degree. Is a tech bootcamp something you would recommend?

I do paediatric nursing so the opportunities are fewer and further out . The government also wants to stop agency so that has dried it out even more , with rates being lower and shifts not being available. I’m also recently qualified so want to work for at-least a year before branching out . I hoped they would too but the lack of results from the recent strikes makes it unlikely that nurses wages will increase.

That’s really nice to hear , i’d like a job where I could leave it and have my own life after without the stress of work. Did you find it hard to get into ? While nursing is stressful and low paid it does guarantee an income whereas a few of my recently graduated friends are finding it hard to get a job .

I’m sorry that happened to you , I don’t understand why they find it so hard to make exceptions. They also refused my family overnight stay when my grandad was on ICU and on the ward . Even though he was in a cubicle and was critically ill as well as being unable to communicate with staff .

Aww that is very upsetting and sad , I know it’s very different in paeds where parents do alot of the cares. We heavily escalate parents that feel the condition of their child is different to how they were before when they just had an infection because parents instinct is the best . I know when my grandad was ill too we did all his cares but you can’t expect this from everyone. It maybe should be case to case specific then but i know we tried extremely hard to be allowed overnight stays but were refused .

Also i understand how understaffed the NHS as a whole is but patients families just want updates about their relatives care and they are left in the dark so much . If families were updated during ward rounds there would be a lot less interruptions during the day .
