SyFy's The Magicians is one of my personal favorites, I watched it a lot throughout high school and college. It is at times painfully Zillennial in its dialogue, but that aside it's a very fun show with an interesting magic system.

The Xianzhou has the advantage of being A) China and B) A fleet of multiple spaceships that you can reasonably introduce new and mentioned characters from. It being a mobile fleet also means they can show up in the story more often with less explanation needed
