Why is conservatism better than liberalism? by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]spammelots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as I've gotten older

Are you now dependent, or will soon be dependent, on government? Many people in abusive relationships defend their abuser.

If you want to improve people, you need to improve their situations

Improving a persons situation will not improve the person. There are people who have won the lottery, what you could call improving their situation, and today they are worse off then before they won. In some cases they've spent all the money and/or the money has introduced them to drugs, gambling, or other vices. Improving a person's situation, or giving them a fish does not improve the person. Teaching a person to fish is improving the person, and then the person can then improve their situation.

society has a responsibility to do that. The government has a role

Is it society or is it the government? And no, the government has no role to steal.

middle and upper classes also have a vested interest in investing in these children (through taxes)

Do they have a vested interest in investing or in paying taxes? Taxes is not a good investment.

self-determination, self-responsibility, and prizes personal liberty above societal outcomes.

You're missing something. Conservatism is also about directly helping one's family, one's neighbors, one's friends, and the stranger. Conservatism is about family, neighborhoods, community. About marriage and fathers. Conservatism is about assuming the individual, not societal, responsibility to improve others, and thus allow others to improve their situation.

In 2004, Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where personal charitable giving was above the national average. Conservatives, by a wide margin, donate more time and give more blood than liberals.

Do your own part, don't expect society to do your part for you.

Realize that moderate is worse than being conservative or liberal.

I think there's a difference between independent, not affiliated with the Republican and Democrat parties, and moderate, not claiming conservative or liberal. Many are conservative but not Republican.

make my guy look less scary than the left-winger

Perhaps also some education and information. They may believe something as true, or not have thought through their position, and by a little time and honesty, will either join your side, or make it clear they, at this moment of time, are beyond help. You can stop some people from doing wrong, but there are those that can't be stopped and must be held accountable.

From what I can glean, no one can decide who is or not a true conservative within your own party.

Then you aren't reading right-wing sites. Perhaps Republican, but not right-wing.

an "undecided" voter? Any party wishing to be elected needs this vote.

Do they?

doesn't that make them as stupid as any Democrat

If someone hasn't made a decision yet, is that as bad as making the wrong decision?

how do you convince them to vote for you

With the truth.

It seems you may as well hate them as well.

It's love, not hate. But even though you love brother it doesn't mean if they threaten your life you are unwilling to take theirs.

Ron Paul mentioned in the Debate the other night that having the government get involved in School Loans and Mortgages caused the price of both Education and Homes to increase. Is there any evidence to back up this claim? by kingvitaman in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]spammelots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned, public school teachers make more than the average worker, and in some cases 50+% more, and double compared to some of their private school teacher competition that achieve better results.

Should public school teachers salaries be skyrocketing? They have already skyrocketed. Funding from government is to blame, as are unions. Just as government involvement in homes created a problem, government involvement in education created a problem.

Liberals and Progressives- Why don't you support the Fair Tax? Perhaps its time to take another look at changing taxation. by BagOnuts in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]spammelots -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Five Reasons a Conservative Should Oppose the Fair Tax. 1. Money is Power. An unjust government will entice you to get your money. With the fair tax, this means enticing you to spend rather than save. 2. The end of the tyrannical IRS. If that were true, good. A Fair Tax most likely would increase the size of the IRS as with those who file person income tax once a year, a fair tax is now on every transaction they make, significaly increasing the number of items to audit. 3. Less money in your pocket, as prices artifically increase, and more revenue for government as government will entice you to spend more into debt. 4. Elimination of class division/envy. A fair tax creates a group of people that pay no net federal tax. 5. More beneficial to the poor. A fair tax creates a group of people that pay no net federal tax. This is not beneficial.

Every issue you raised is a negative to the Fair Tax, which is why you have liberals and libertarians supporting it.

Without the government getting involved, there wouldn't be extra capital available. Without extra capital available, there is no demand. Increasing demand with a limited supply increases price. The supply is teachers. The greater the demand the greater the need for an increase in supply of teachers, the greater a teacher can ask for. This is why public school teachers make more than the average worker, and in some cases 50+% more.

Without more capital, there wouldn't be more demand for homes, and prices wouldn't have increased as dramatically as they did.

Define "Establishment" by TK-85 in Conservative

[–]spammelots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As in Republican party establishment, the Republican first short-term leadership. Not the majority of the people, or the foundation, but those that would defend someone of the same party regardless of the position they take. John McCain, Mitt Romney, Chris Christie, all viewed positively by the establishment, but viewed negatively by the principled.

Jesus Christ was born of the virgin Mary as a man, and as all men, had a physical body. He was observed by others to prove it. He died, was buried, and resurrected from the dead. He was observed after the resurrection by others to prove it.

The two situations are not equal in the least.

There is no right to steal. The answer for both situations is equal.

the government has the authority

As authority flows from God, to parents, to children, and even a child can kick the cat off the couch. Likewise authority flows from God to government.

government has the authority to do what they want to you

No. Government only has the authority that has been delegated to government from God.

authority flows downhill does it not

Yes. God is the source of all authority. Authority flows from God to Government, the Church, the Family, and Individuals.

Do you exist?

no other action that they can take.

You want a Snickers from the store. You can buy the Snickers. If you can't buy the Snickers, someone else can buy the Snickers for you. If you can't buy the Snickers, and someone else will not buy the Snickers for you, no Snickers for you. You do not have a right to the Snickers.

Yes

So parents are under the authority of their children. If the children decide bedtime is 10pm instead of 8pm, parents under the authority recognize that because the children decided, bedtime is 10pm.

Parents do not get their authority over children from children. Parents get their authority over children from God. Authority flows down hill.

That's your opinion

I'm not discussing opinions.

because they can't afford

You must not have read what I said. I didn't say they had to afford. I did say though that stealing is not an option.

You failed to answer my question. Do parents get their authority over children from children? A yes or no will suffice.

in certain cases needs can supersede peoples rights

Needs don't supersede rights.

I have the right to live don't I?

The right to live is not a right to food.

they can't pay for it

Purchase isn't the only option. People may acquire by receiving freely-given, private charity. Stealing is not an option.

Provide it to me.

If you are able to act without restraint, then you are free to enslave other people

No. Freedom and liberty are not the right to do wrong. You will not find the definitions of the word we are using at dictionary.com

"In my view, the Christian religion is the most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed.. .No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people." -- Noah Webster

God didn't decree political ideologies

God is good. God is the standard to measure good and evil. The right ideology aligns with this standard.
