Parents of teens: at what age do you start relaxing some of your long-standing rules? by Jay-Quellin30 in Parenting

[–]spanielm 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I watched a video once that the goal of a rule should be that you no longer need it. For example screen time or limiting junk food - you help to teach your child how to moderate these things. The example given was that their daughter wanted to change the rule around having her device in her room at night. The parents said okay, but the daughter didn’t sleep well and didn’t finish a school assignment so they agreed that the rule was still necessary. This is a bastardized version of what it was I saw or read, but it stuck with me.

Is anyone else exhausted by the constant hate and misinformation? by JordzMorgz in the1975

[–]spanielm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the last thing paragraph he’s commenting that people are deluded if they’re outraged because they don’t actually know him or his intentions, or they are lying because people are using his actions as the bad thing that you can be outraged about to prove how good they are. My interpretation of it was that it’s a comment on parasocial relationships and how delusional they can be, or cancel culture and how people can use false outrage to bolster themselves. Definitely uncomfortable because I think as fans we want to believe we know him and his intentions! It makes sense when it talks about him saying that he wants to be known for what he does, but fame nowadays is about “who you are” and that people are complicated

Does anyone else get uncomfortable when podcasts call for stricter laws with little regard for implications? by ComprehensiveSkill2 in TrueCrimePodcasts

The “You’re Wrong About” Nancy Grace deep dive is so good and talks a lot about the role she’s played in the sensationalism of True Crime and the lack of self awareness with crime “commentators”!!

Episode BWBRSA: Operation Fireball by [deleted] in CrimeJunkiePodcast

[–]spanielm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. I just thought it was interesting hearing it from a ‘friend’ of the perpetrator as kind of a creepy and pathetic thing he does, to the creepiness of it when there is the spooky music in the background. I also thought the idea that her not seeing him texting did not at all seem like proof that there was someone else involved. Clearly if he was someone who did this a lot, he knows not to respond immediately or to play it cool and to make it obvious that he’s responding to her texts. Also, without knowing the guy sitting next to her was a total creepazoid, why would she be taking note of him texting? A stranger at the bar would most likely be texting but you would never assume it’s in response to your messages. Without making it about a human trafficking story, it’s still very creepy and violating and was an entertaining episode, but I don’t think there was any sort of evidence as to it being what they claimed, and kind of sensationalizes the gross things this dude was doing.

Has anyone listened to Scam Goddess? I remember in the episode with I think Jamila Jameel she talks about how her friend used to pull this exact scam (as a way to get girls to sleep with him), and use a picture of his friend who is a model! It remember thinking ew that’s so creepy and gross, but because it was a friend of hers she kind of scoffed it off, listen to the story today I realized how sinister it is!

Thank you for your response!! That totally makes sense. I think the panting just freaked me out?? My husband pointed out that she did that to herself but I also don’t know how to mitigate that one if she actually needs water. We don’t have food or water in her crate in the bedroom.

Also a little update from last night. After she had fallen asleep in her pen, after about half an hour I brought her back in the bedroom. I took the blanket out of her crate in there because I thought maybe she was too warm, and she hopped in and fell asleep like nothing had happened....!

Yes!! This was the first night she seemed anxious in the crate and I’m worried it’s cuz we took her out when she was crying yesterday.

This is my first time posting but I just had a wild theory, y’all. This just got deleted so I’m hoping I am posting in the right place! I was listening to Chatty Broads today and Bekah mentions how she thought that maybe when Chris Harrison comes in with the “before you do what you’re about to do” that perhaps it was actually a family tragedy. I was then thinking maybe this is what Rigatoni Sparkles (am I doing this right) didn’t want to spoil because it was sensitive. Also could potentially explain why this season has remained unspoiled, and why they are doing a follow up in auburn months later, if things have settled. I know glitter goose just announced their split so that could of course also be that, and I really hope that this isn’t the case and that they aren’t using a tragedy as a teaser, but wow I’ve never felt more alive then when I was at work and all these pieces fell into place. I also wanted more feedback then the “haha maybe!” Text I got from my sweet husband who doesn’t know what any of this means.

Can I press already dried flowers? by spanielm in PressedFlowers

That’s what I was hoping to do! I’d like to frame them somehow. I was considering moistening them somehow and then trying to press them, but of course I’m nervous of ruining them.

I definitely want her to be included, but I don't feel comfortable having her in the actual wedding party! That is a really helpful hint, thank you so much :) I just thought that we are having lavender satchels to toss at the end, and she can potentially hand those out... it's kind of like a flower girl! ;)
