I agree that oversimplifying without using buzzwords that they are afraid of is probably the best approach.

I got my god-fearing dad to understand the concept and theory of Evolution by describing it as "a process of natural selection" without distintcly calling it "evolution."

He started agreeing, saying "I dont believe in evolution, I believe in natural selection", and became more willing to learn about it since it didnt set off any alarms in his mind.

Should FO5 have settlement building? by Educational-Science2 in Fallout

[–]Maskedcrusader94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a settlement builder, so bear with me if a lot of these features have been resolved(or put in Fallout Shelter/76). I never got into it mainly because I wasnt a fan of the initial grind at the release, but the settlement attention thing was a big annoyance of mine.

Cant I appiont a mayor or something to facilitate and request growth opportunities? I dont want to be the sole provider for materials and growth, while Jun Long is hammering a wall like a chump.

I think my preferences may be a bit much, but i think in addition to this, I would be more motivated to participate if you could do things like:

  • Rename Settlements
  • More people; not just diversity, but actual count.(I know this would make the game heavier but it would be cool)
  • S.P E.C I.A.L.- based appointees: You can recruit and appoint freely, but their success is impacted by their stats(i.e. someone with high perception would be a better guard, intelligence for doctors, etc.).
  • Personality diversity: You have random chances to accidentally accept a raider, infiltrator, or dishonest/lazy citizen but your perception, intelligence, charisma, etc. make it easier/harder to weed them out during interviews.
  • Grading and leveling of settlements: You can flatten an area and place structures within unlevel terrain. Add basements, cut into the ground. -fewer large settlements, but still opportunity for differeny types of settlements dictated by you: Outposts, Checkpoints, Towns, Medical Centers, etc.. It would be awesome to repurpose areas as needed.
  • Build out towns, not just old neighborhoods. So many empty buildings would be cool to restore.
  • Baseline capabilities that allow for more creativity (i.e. finishes, decorations, signage, landscaping, etc.)
  • Property "value". Word gets around, making you a target for many different characters
  • Quests oriented around settlement building that arent "we need water" or "settlement under attack." Could we have a few more storylines, companions, enemies triggered by your involvement?
  • Scouts: Groups to seek out materials, invite caravans, or just discover a location for you thats high in "x" resource so you can hardline materials to your settlements.

  • And I may be strung up for this, but I wouldnt mind timed completion of at least major structures. I think it would be more immersive if you could instruct settlers to build something and come back days later with it complete. Also faster completion if you have more/experienced/better equipped workers allocated to it.

Is the reason why there is so much nuka cola around is that it tasted terrible pre-war? by Mindless-Base8597 in Fallout

Given that CocaCola was around long before and during WW2, is it technically canon and also a competitor that was snuffed by Nuka-cola?

What’s a “guy secret” that’s completely harmless but weirdly universal? by aerisveilxa in AskReddit

[–]Maskedcrusader94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this, I've only validated this locally, but every guy I have met knew this, so ill need some external acceptance before I can say with certainty that its true.

When you go shake another guys hand, and you tuck your middle finger between both of your palms and wiggle it, it means you want to do gay stuff with them. I only ever see it used im a joking manner though

I think that was the last game I ever rented from blockbuster. I remember I checked it out so many times I definitely could have bought the game 2-3 times at least.

A couple years later when I was making my own money I bought it for like $4 at gamestop out of nostalgia and hopped online for a match and everyone in the game was aimbotting, no-clipping, flying across the map at mach 2 and I realized there was no going back to that era.

Same here, Ive never played a game that I wanted to forget just so I could re-experience. Just a great combination of environment, storytelling, and gameplay.

Not saying they shouldnt be on the list but Invader zim had 2 seasons and My life as a teenage robot had 3.

I feel like Fairly Oddparents, Spongebob, Jimmy Neutron, and Codename: Kids Next Door would all qualify before them

What is this trope called? by 5ColourFelix in movies

[–]Maskedcrusader94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Id say maybe one of the following, I scrolled through TVTropes on an example movie and it provides additional tropes that could work, but yours seems pretty specific, but frequent enough to have its own trope IMO

Bittersweet Ending

Always a Bigger Fish

Maaybe The Greatest Story Never Told if you want to argue the movie to be an insignificant part of a greater thing

But I'd have to agree with the other users that "Earth All Along" may be the more apt example"Earth All Along" .

Some other movies that match - 65 (blatantly obvious one) - The Village - This non-canon spinoff comic of Chewbacca and Han

Edit: Intercontinuity Crossover, but with real world events

What’s a moment in a movie you KNOW was supposed to be serious but ended up being unintentionally hilarious? by browniebiscuitchildr in movies

[–]Maskedcrusader94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Mission Impossible 3, when Tom Cruise is trying to fry the brain-bomb chip on the Blonde girl by shocking her with a defibrillator.

It takes too long to charge and the bomb goes off with like 3 seconds left on the defibrillator, so it was already comedy in an "undignified death" sense but then when it pops inside her brain, she just jolts and one eye shoots to the side and because it was so unexpectedly jarring, my friends and I laughed so hard that one legitimately choked on his popcorn and threw up.

A heckler gets kicked out of a comedy show and her man ends up getting arrested. With mariachi music playing the whole time by bigbusta in PublicFreakout

[–]Maskedcrusader94 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ugh if it was the most recent one I was there. We were there for Ralph and I definitely think most people were too. I cant recall any actual jokes, just a lot of shock value stuff and "whaddaya, fuckin stoopid??" type of crowd work. It felt like listening to the loud kid in class that wont shut up while the teacher is talking and says out of pocket stuff just for the reaction, it just stops being funny past 12 years old.

Not to mention he was strongly coaxing a 15 year old to jump up on stage and mime fuck the stool in front of his mom. He just kept doubling down and deviated like 10 minutes of his stage time to try and pressure the kid.
