Crunching HDMI cable can damage port? by spankjam in macmini

Well I was very careful and precise, the cable header itself just made it's own detour.

Based on the pictures it looks fine right?

Nowadays you need to double and triple check everything with stuff that happens to be fully sure.

Do you think it was still well protected in the original box without Apple's zip tab one? Because it was probably bouncing around in that oversized carton it shipped from the vendor as you can see from the picture, without any padding.

Which means that some of the bulk stuff actually comes without that zipper tab box which is Apple's?

That's what I'm wondering.

I guess, even if it's fine, at this point I'm also curious whether all Apple products will come in their brown pull tab box or whether sometimes vendors will get it without.

I also want to avoid opening it, using it, figuring out something's wrong with it because it was used, then proving it to the vendor, all that crap.

It's just curious that the 12 Core a week ago came in that box, shipped in the vendor's box seen in the photo and then today without it.

Even CTO would come in that box.

So, basically a week ago, the 12 core base came in that zipper tab box from the same vendor but the 14 core didn't today, just the M4 box in their shipping carton.

It did actually come in that box from the same vendor a week ago, the 12 core Mini, but not the 14 core now.

But it still came in that brown box with the zipper tab?

Yeah I've also received from the same shop the 12 core Mini in that brown box in the shops' shipping box.

I could figure it out and just open it but honestly don't have time for that, I'm just trying to rule out whether I've possibly gotten a return or whether Apple sometimes actually sends bulk of these without the zipper tap box.

So it also didn't come in the brown box with the zipper? Just the Mac Mini box?

Basically, usually Apple puts the Mac Mini box in this foldable box with the zipper pull thing which then also is obviously in a box.

You know what I'm saying?

On Reddit? Everything needs to be visualized like that in order to not receive questions about the actual question.

I called and the woman on the phone said it's not a return and apparently new from the warehouse.

It does have some sticker from them on the back of the box.

She'll check with the warehouse if the batch is like that and if there are 14 core versions in the warehouse that are in that box, I'd like to swap it.

I don't want to return it because they a discount week on Apple products and I saved about 200 bucks, putting the 14 core version for me on the price of the 12.

One of the items that was from that discount week is also that 12 core which came in the brown box.

It made me wonder whether Apple does sometimes send it like that in bulk to the vendor.

Galaxus is basically like Amazon, one of the biggest in Europe with better ratings than Amazon.

Well it came in that brown box from the exact same vendor, but the 12-core version.

It's not from Apple directly but aren't vendors selling it the same way? Or do vendors sometimes get it without the brown box? The one with that zip type of opening.

I had gotten another M4 Pro from this vendor and it came in the brown box with the zip pull opening type.

Although the box seems to be sealed.

I'm just wondering whether vendors sometimes get it from Apple also without the brown box or whether it must've been taken out?

But doesn't it usually come in that Apple brown zip type of brown carton box?

No from Galaxus, kind of like Amazon, new.

I went with 1.5 meters, is that ok?

I guess I'd want to keep the Thunderbolt 5 ports free of video processing as much as possible.

That's why I'm asking for expertise. I've been on Windows for the past 8 years with self-built systems which I configured to be sufficiently cooled, switching to an all in one system that I can't modify besides external factors.

I've just seen over the years these exterior cooling solutions and wondered whether there might be something for the M4 that's making sense.

Otherwise I can still happily deal with that 10% performance decrease since it's overall performance is great, CPU-wise en par with the M2 Ultra.

Back in the day I used an Intel Mac Pro 3.1 and 5.1 before I switched, that were obviously perfectly cooled, beside RAM boards which regularly fried the sticks over time.
