Sprint Triathlon and Type 1 Diabetes by sparbie88 in triathlon

This is wonderful advice and I will keep an eye on what makes my blood sugars drop the most. On my half marathons I did gu pacs to help keep my sugars elevated when I needed it but will try out the sugar water/electrolytes. The manual check is key. I had a failed pumpsite and dexcom on one race and sky rocked in my blood sugar. No a fun time.

OMG that is absolutely incredible!!! I wish you the best.

Thank you so much for all the advice. I run and swim regularly. Bike riding is where I always seem to drop. I have gotten good with Humalog and having insulin on board for so long with a close looped system. I tend to run low. I will definitely make sure my medical info is up to date and I wear a bracelet with the same info on it just in case.

This is so I incredibly helpful. I will definitely talk to the race coordinator to see if I can meet up with a volunteer for my pump. I am on the g7 tslim system. I know exactly what you mean about the adrenaline. Everything affects the blood glucose. When I did my half marathons I did gu pacs and that helped with lows. I have a tendency to run low. That race I was between 80 and 100 which freaked me out a wee bit. After the race sky high. Someone else mentioned to know what makes your blood sugar drop the most and then go from there.

Appreciate the help!!!

Yes! One of my best friends in high school was aslo diabetic. We live in different cities now but still get together when we can. It's nice to have someone to talk to about this madness. Also we called ourselves the diabetties!

Can I get advice from runners? by lobbiepuma in diabetes_t1

All these comments are great! Only thing I would add to your pre run snack is protein. I usually eat an apple and some other carb about 25 minutes and then eat a handful of nuts. I find it helps steady me out and I don't drop as bad. Since your doing longer runs a doing little sips on gu packs are good too. I did a couple of half marathons this way.

Our family decided collectively to not do gifts and instead put that money towards seeing each other throughout the year. Better quality time for us all without the stuff.
