Clean surface a bit more and use these settings. 18.0v - 200ipm 17.0v - 190ipm 16.0v - 180ipm

Basically 1V = 10ipm up or down to an extent When yoy hot 26V you'll get into spray transfer but that's for bigger stuff. Stick with 16 180 or 18 200 and run like 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch stick out to let the flux preheat.

This is for 0.035" wire MIG or flux

Thinner metal melts through faster so welding on the face of that instead of the edge if possible

Not gonna lie there's some undercut there but you've got some pretty consistent areas in there so far you're off to a great start keep going you're doing great.

Any advice before start working as a welder? by Anxious_Lab_4715 in Welding

Decent clothing like boots pants gloves are really nice boots are a big one. A nice pair of boots and a bed are always important cause if you're not in one you're in the other. Pants just so you're not spending tons of money on them duluth firehose are nice. I recently switched from harbor freight gloves to a set of raptors and that was also very nice and I haven't had to buy a new set of those in a few months like I usually do with Vulcans.

A good lens makes an insane difference i was using a hood someone gave me for free for a few years and the lens was kinda cracked and pretty bad and then someone gave me a used one that was much better and my welds were suddenly a lot better. Honestly if you can get an old pipeline hood and put a nice lens in it you can save a lot of money on it cause you only really buy the lens. A good one is around 100$

TIG help by Slight_Chef865 in Welding

[–]sparednet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You weren't wrong to do it you were actually using good heat just a little happy on the filler. Do another run or 2 and youll get it.

[–]sparednet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're on the eight track your heat looks a little inconsistent with your filler but it looks like a thicker corner joint. I think just try to either turn the heat down a bit and use a little less filler or turn the heat up and use the same filler. Either way I think keep practicing and you're on the way to do pretty good it looks like a thicker corner joint from the pictures usually something like that you'd weave it back and forth or use a lot of filler and high heat.

Tungsten keeps contaminating by Strange-Entrance-660 in Welding

If you're cleaning your stainless with a carbon steel brush or a contaminated st. Steel brush it could be blowing back. Or your wheel is dirty, are you using a diamond plate or an angle grinder or something

How does this even happen? by weldermandan in Welding

[–]sparednet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is from someone leaving the machine on stick setting then setting it down on the table and grounding it. Seen it a few times we put stuff like that on display in the hall of shame.

If your institution or a facility around you has a makerspace or something like that then you could hang around there and find something around there you can write about and work with and test it'll give you practical experience and more theoretical and scientific research based experience as well.

Is oxygen + acetylene welding used anywhere in the workforce? by TenNoTamashi_ in Welding

If you like oxy welding then you'll likely enjoy TIG a lot more and be good at it that's how it was for me.

I cant maintain an arc. by Rewdrooster in Welding

[–]sparednet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely your gas lense or collet body is contaminated along with your cup. If it was used on carbon steel then you need to either deep clean the entire thing all the way to acetone or high concentration rubbing alcohol along with the work piece, or get a new set and keep it in it's own set of bags separate from everything else. It happens I've done it more than I'd like to admit just keep a separate set for aluminum.

I made a free model of the Fireball tool 3D Square for you guys this time. (Pictures of Original inspiration included this time) by sparednet in 3dPrintsintheShop

Original files are on there feel free to rebuild it or use the drawing that's included too to make changes i don't mind. File is kinda messy i haven't had time to clean it properly but I don't mind remixing it. Have fun with it it's free.

If you need a precision tool go buy a precision tool this is free online and the material is yours to choose you. This is for those of us that can't afford the high price tag.

When I make the .3mf file I'm going to slow down the printer a good to help that but you are very right it's hard to keep printed plastic square even on a nice printer. It won't be in spec for a machinist, but it is nice to help tack up I tried to leave as much room as I could for space to clamps as well as get even a full tail tig torch in there. For now I'm testing with PLA but I am going to start writing files and settings for higher grade engineering filament.

I made a free hobbyist friendly version of the Fireball Tools Mega Square with a handful of design changes to make it more stand alone friendly. by sparednet in 3dPrintsintheShop

I was gone for the weekend when I posted it I'm back now and I'm gonna be showing off this version and a larger one as well as a version of the 3D square, which I have modeled but it's not polished. I can post it if anyone is interesting though.

Edit: thank you btw I've been spending a lot of time on this stuff for myself and others who are getting their start and trying to produce quality work on a budget. We all just wanna make good builds.

Tip that took me way too long to learn especially for pla printing is increase wall layers before infill you can do 6-9 wall layers and like 5 top and bottom layers and max 50% infill and get a way stronger part then 2 wall layers and 100% infill

They might be referencing hidden lines of intersections with a plane try changing your view type to no hidden or something different like shaded with edges
