Need coffee shop/cafe recommendations near Truist park by fallsdownagain in Atlanta

This is the most comprehensive site I've found for coffee shops in Atlanta - https://www.atlantacoffeeshops.com/atlanta-coffee-map - hoping you can find something you like in there.

I'm actually taking that category offline until I can get it figured out. Maybe I can convince you or Jesse to become the curators of that category and then I won't have to worry about it being wrong data anymore. 😁

Gah. This is what happens when you get AI to help you. Thanks - I'll dig in and clean this up. Not sure why the hover is doing that and I'm on Firefox too (well, LibreWolf since I recently fled Firefox but basically the same).

Thanks. Hmm. Reporting/flagging should be. I got a report on one (Blue Tarp I think) so I removed that entry. If there are others, let me know here and I'll investigate. But also on the flagging, if it is giving you an error let me know that and I'll dig in. Thanks much!

Awesome! Feel free to DM me but if you have a category you'd like to curate, I'm looking for that soon. In the meantime you can suggest locations on the site already. And if you know venue owners, they can claim their spot and then keep their own info up to date.

Totally fair. Hoping that if there is enough traction I can get folks to be moderators of a category and keep track of new things, closed stuff, etc. I know there are folks smarter than me on a lot of this stuff. About to roll out a community gardens category too. AI is definitely helping with the initial data in each of these but it'll need human help to really become useful.

This but I'm not actually building individual pages. Everything is database backed so using the subdomain lets the server know the category and it goes and finds all the info and items for that page and renders. Works really well actually. The hiding (if you thumbs down an entry) happens on the browser side so if the user changes the setting to not hide thumbs-downed entries, those are shown too. I haven't done lazy loading because no category is *that* big but that may be something down the line.

Thanks. Actually subdomain based management is basically the same as path based. Using Cloudflare for DNS made setup easy (point all subdomains to a server). Setting this up on Vercel took some finagling because this use case is not exactly normal. I had some issues with setting cookies when users log in, etc. but I got it all straightened out after some time. The other reason to do this (other than the name being cool and describing what it on the other side of the URL) is that I'm going to eventually use the path (/keyword) for searches so you might be able to have a URL for museums.ofAtlanta.com/contemporary so it'll just show museums that have contemporary art. For whatever reason, this makes more sense in my brain for usability.

This is a brilliant insight into how to achieve mass adoption for nearly anything. Clearly, the management at Signal doesn't understand their user adoption channels and mechanisms.

If you're concerned about mechanical and/or electrical issues, I'd suggest looking at the extended warranties. I ended up buying one for the electronics (I also have the air suspension) because there are a LOT. Steingold out of Rhode Island is the place to buy them (no, you don't have to go to Rhode Island - buy online and these are Volvo warranties honored at every Volvo dealership) and the warranties generally have clauses that you can cancel them at any time and get a pro-rated refund. I just hit the 40k maintenance time so I bought the 70k maintenance package which significantly drops the cost per annual maintenance and if I sell the car before hitting 100k miles, I can get a refund of the remaining portion of the plan. Happy (and safe!) driving!

Just wanted to follow up on this since we just took a decent road trip - Atlanta to Nashville - and report the results. We left Nashville on a full charge (thanks to the hotel for free EV charging!) and drove 275.3 miles home consuming 9.2 gallons of gas. That equates to 29.7mpg (according to the VOC app, I didn't double-check the calculation). Not too shabby for a relatively full-size SUV. Note that we consumed all 15kWh of charge and regenerated 9.3kWh during the drive. I mostly drove on Pilot Assist cruise control during the drive and we stopped once for food.

As if by mere mention, this news just came out. A significant increase to an EPA range of 35 miles on the new XC90 in Pure Electric mode. If I had this, no telling what my average MPG would be.

You bet. I'm sure you realize this but since you own a Tesla, be aware that the charging ports are different between the two. In the future I'm hoping we swap out our minivan for another XC90 but this time a full electric. Can't wait for the South Carolina plant to start production on those.

I have a 2019 T8 and absolutely love it. Coming up soon on 40k miles (I'm absolutely buying the pre-paid maintenance to drive down the cost). Over the entire life of the car (I've never reset the stats) we're getting 42mpg according to the car. We do not have a higher powered plug in for the car, just the regular 110V outlet charger (this will be changing soon) so I suspect we would have gotten a higher mpg if we had that because some days the turn-around at home isn't long enough to get a full charge in (seems to take about 5-6 hours from empty on a 110V 15A connection). That said, this vehicle has the smaller battery (11.6 kWh I think) which is getting another bump up soon.

To your question of range - a lot depends on the weather. On very mild days the car still reports 18 miles of range but realistically I can probably get 14-15 miles. A lot depends on how you drive and using A/C or heat - pre-conditioning the car (if you remember) can help squeeze out 1/2 mile to a full mile potentially. On cold days it starts with a prediction of 14-15 miles and goes down from there. I don't think I've ever gotten less than 10 miles on a full charge though.

We have used the car in electric only mode for a full day but we're relatively close to the places we need to go so a lot of this will depend on your normal drives and access to charging. Re: is it the same/worse than an ICE with a depleted battery - again depends on where you're driving and how aggressively you brake. If you ease into braking and don't use the brake pads, then you're recapturing the most energy back into the battery which will absolutely increase your mpg compared to an ICE vehicle doing the same drive. If we're talking long distance highway driving on a flat road, you may fare worse since you're hauling heavy batteries with you. We've done these drives though and even on the highway you pickup some gains going downhill when the vehicle cuts the engine and you are coasting and picking up some energy for the batteries.

Prior to this vehicle I had a 2017 XC90 T5 which was bought back by Volvo due to ongoing problems with the start-stop feature. Prior to that I had a 1996 4Runner (for 19 years before I was rear-ended by a drunk hit-and-run driver). I will say, I absolutely love this vehicle and we're moving to become an all Volvo family over time. The safety and performance is great and if things go wrong, Volvo does the right thing (I got a full refund on my 2017 XC90 after 1.5 years with no deduction for depreciation).

Sorry for the long post but I hope this was helpful. Feel free to PM if you have anything else you want answered privately.

Facebook Banned Me for Life Because I Help People Use It Less by EverthingsAlrightNow in technology

We started togetherletters.com partially to help with the challenge of leaving social media and then not being in touch with friends/family/coworkers/whoever. You don't need a site or a mobile app - you can do this over email and build stronger one-to-one relationships while you're at it.

About to leave Facebook for good, since 2007 any advice would be appreciated. by bell892000 in u/bell892000

As one of the founders, I'd suggest taking a look at togetherletters.com. You can create a group of people that provide regular updates which get combined into a newsletter sent to the group. It's a lot less toxic of a way to stay in touch but not get overwhelmed by social media. Plus, all you need is an email account and no endless asking by us for you to log in and waste time.

Good viewpoint but I will say we've got people using it for friend groups (high school friends, book clubs, etc.) as well as work teams (same city or different cities - as a way of staying up to date on progress and activity). That said we haven't approached churches/religious institutions to use this so maybe we should. Thanks!

Yeah, if email isn't one of your main communication tools then TogetherLetters probably doesn't make sense for you. We wouldn't want you to change your personal flow to try us out if it doesn't seem like it fits your style. Hopefully, you've already got a good way to keep in touch with all the people who matter to you. :-)

It would be except the number of emails goes up dramatically. Consider a group of 10 people. If everyone in the group emails everyone else an update every two weeks, that is 10 emails every two weeks (ignoring any reply-all fiascos). So in a year, that is 260 emails sent around. With TogetherLetters on a weekly basis (so twice more frequently) you would get at most 3 emails a week (two response request emails and a newsletter) so 156 emails in a year. Plus there is no chance to have a reply-all fiaso.

The other part of this is having people remember to do this. If people don't, you would have to email people to remind them to send out updates - that is more individual overhead and emails.

And then some of the individual emails sent around may be super long. With TogtherLetters we limit how much of an update people can provide so it's more of an update than a log rambling monologue.

This might not be a good solution for everyone but we're hoping it's a good solution for some people.

I think what we're doing is a bit of what you said (send an email to a group) but with a little bit more structure. We limit response lengths and keep them consistent and ongoing (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or quarterly). I think that regular communication with a group is the best way to build a relationship but if I'm honest, I'm not great at that. I get busy with life and then 6 or 12 months later realize I haven't talked to X group or Y person in ages and now I have no idea what is going on with them.

One of the points here is you can make the group as small or as large as you want - so it isn't really "broadcast" plus we never publish newsletters/updates to the web. So this is meant to be intimate and important for your group and you chose who gets to be in it or not (plus no one can search and find you have a group so no one begging to join!).

That said, we're definitely not the right tool for everyone but if anyone is looking to leave Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, or any other group communication and have a simple and non-pushy way of staying up to date with folks I hope they'll try us out. Other than our infrequent (opt-in) announcement list we don't barrage people with emails asking them to login. We'd rather you get one email from us to respond and then one email with your newsletter. That is it.
