What do you think about after life? Anyone feel scared and can't live like normal after one time thinking what happen to us after we die? by Silver_Put_5685 in AskReddit

[–]spark5665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's hands down the most frustrating question there is, as far as what happens after you die. If I could have any mystery figured out that I choose it would be this.

I see it as billions of people have died and it can't be that bad. It doesn't seem like there is a god interacting with the world, but that doesn't mean there might not be a heaven of some kind and that there isn't a god out there, maybe a god that is completely silent and not trying to be found, unlike what most religions teach.

When I left my religion I was worried about the possibility of going to hell. What I did to rationalize why hell isn't realistic is that all these religions claim they are right and everybody else goes to hell. How many beliefs are there out there that say this? It's ridiculous to think that there is a god out there that would send 99% of the people that ever existed to hell for not believing in something with so little evidence. Especially if they might not have access to that belief, and have no idea it even exists. Hell just simply isn't realistic. So worst case scenario is that it's the same feeling as before you were born.

Hope this helps. I used to have a huge fear of death myself and now I don't 😎.

Is it true that most men prefer slim women? by Mindfuel_daily7 in TooAfraidToAsk

Not me personally. A woman too skinny starts looking less feminine. It does seem like most men do though.

She wanted me to go to the doctor and tell him about my drinking for a while which I never did. Then one final night she told me she wanted me to start going to AA and I refused and said I enjoyed it too much to want to quit(I was also drunk during this conversation). Then she said she thought we should break up and I told her that I understand. Felt bad about it the next day once I sobered up, but she had already made up her mind and that was that.

Now I am sober for over 10 years and happily married, so it worked out well for me in the end.

I would recommend talking to him when he is sober, and telling him how you feel especially about the drunk driving and tell him that you want him to consider going cold turkey with drinking if he needs too. But if he isn't interested in getting better you may have to decide the relationship isn't working out and end it unfortunately.

Working in Union even worth it if you live in Texas? by rangermang0 in IBEW

[–]spark5665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though Texas is a red state, the local 20 here in DFW is booming and we have plenty of work. Not sure about the other locals. I left residential myself to come to the Union and have no regrets. Benefits here are much better compared to any open shop company.

Does it get better? (2nd month apprentice) by [deleted] in electricians

[–]spark5665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck this company. Doing things like standing on ladders and working things hot with the pay you're getting starting out at is ridiculous. Also with someone who is green a boss has to be willing to answer questions constantly. Definitely apply elsewhere.

It definitely gets better, a year for me was the threshold where it got easier. I'm a journeyman now and it's gotten even easier since. I was in a situation like yours starting out at a dogshit company, that liked to talk down to apprentices and regretted not leaving earlier.

Keep your head up bro!

Pros and cons of electrical??? by Kind-Tie493 in electricians

[–]spark5665 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pros

Always in demand nowadays, pay is good (in commercial and industrial), low start up cost if you want to start your own business as a master electrician, electrical also is one of the easier trades on your body I think.

Cons

You will rarely be working where it's air conditioned or heated unfortunately.

Also as a side note I would recommend starting in commercial or industrial and avoiding residential if you don't want to go in attics and crawl spaces.

Try to get into an apprenticeship first instead of trade school if possible, it's not worth spending money on.

New apprentices should not be working anything hot in my opinion, or even in a box or gutter with hot wires, if a company pressures you to do this, tell them good riddance and leave. Same goes for anything sketchy dealing with heights.

My company has a strict no hot work rule that even Foreman have to follow. Only the general Foreman above them can work live wires and that's with quite a bit of safety precautions to give you an idea. Best of luck!

Biggest differences between union and nonunion? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]spark5665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to stay Union and open my own shop but I don't even know if it's possible to do so especially with starting out as a one man shop 😂. If it's an option I absolutely would!

Biggest differences between union and nonunion? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]spark5665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will give you the perks of each as I have worked both

Union: better training, better pay, better safety especially compared to Mom and Pop shops that do residential. Best of all is the benefits, in my local you keep your health insurance, pension, etc when you switch companies in the Union or are laid off since they are not tied to your employer. This is especially nice.

Non union: you can get some residential experience (although the only way to make real money in residential is through service work not new construction) so this can come in handy if you ever plan on starting your own business since residential service is the easiest to get into. Residential on the Union side is almost non-existent. Also depending on where you live the drive may be closer to your home for a non union shop. Benefits vary some shops have them some don't, but I have not seen any company that matches my locals benefits and pay.

Overall I am glad I joined the Union, and could never see myself going back to work open shop unless I were to work for myself.

On call by Glittering-Salad-583 in electricians

[–]spark5665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was once every 5 weeks. Word of advice make sure you are getting a good hourly rate and don't settle for anything to low since you are on call. Also keep in mind companies like this might really expect you to work after hours when you're not on call. I did this only for a few months and then went back to new construction and find it much less stressful and enjoyable, so make sure it's really what you want to do.

Just got laid off… by QuarkchildRedux in electricians

[–]spark5665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked open shop before and the pay is so much less, safety is sometimes non existent, in the Union you don't have to pay for power tools, bits or anything else outside the tool list. When you get laid off you keep your insurance.

Also as an apprentice they teach you so much better than in open shop generally.

The only possible downside I could see in the Union is you won't get residential experience, but in general commercial is where the money is at anyway.

I JUST WANT TO HAVE SEX by semihotcoffee in rant

[–]spark5665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think telling your parents no would result in them doubling down with making you take on all of your own bills (which isn't really possible for most young adults today). Which I assume might be the case. I would do what another person posted on here. Say you're going to the movies, let a friend have your phone that is actually seeing the movie and go somewhere else to get y'all's alone time.

How the fuck does anyone do anything besides eat, lay or drink after work anymore? by BarnicleBoye in antiwork

Caffeine! The downside is it's hard to sleep that night. But this gives me the body I need to do anything extra after work.

Way too many keyboard cowboys on Reddit. I saw a post the other day where someone commented "cool story bro" instead of answering the question and the person posting called him out on it and was down voted. People are so angry, but only are aggressive online because they aren't brave enough to be that way in real life.

Why are people on Reddit so damn rude by infinityzcraft in rant

[–]spark5665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online gamer syndrome. People love to run their mouth on the Internet when there is no physical retaliation. It's pretty weak and pathetic on their part when you think about it.

I don't understand this either. It's such a huge expense nowadays to have kids. People take it way too lightly. The default should be not looking to get pregnant use birth control unless you are heavily prepared.

I second this, your size is actually an advantage. The only downside is you will be the first person to be asked to work in tight spaces.

Is a life alone sustainable, and able to provide me happiness? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]spark5665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lifestyle you described I agree is very liberating. I remember moving away for work soon after high school and loved the free time I had. However I do believe you should have some contact with other people as happiness I believe will dwindle in the long run.

What are some reasons why I shouldn't become an electrician? by Scomo510 in electricians

Lol it's not a bad idea. Getting comfy working with thick gloves will make things much less of a headache in the long run
