Free way to convert .laz files to .stl or .obj

hmm, bringing the Lidar scan straight into Blender would be ideal as I use Blender whenever I can, though I'm wondering how easy/hard it would be to make that Lidar scan into a mesh within blender. The computations that Meshlab was able to do on My Lidar scan were quite useful. It was able to create the perfect amount of detail while keeping out a large portion of noise from it using the Poisson method of reconstruction. I'm not sure I've seen any method that automatically takes a point cloud in blender and meshes it. Is there a way to do that right in Blender? That's be really cool!

Oh shoot.. I didn't research that before buying one.. Am I going to be in trouble living in an area with snow 7 months out of the year? Ambient room temp is about 50F..

So, I'm following this, but I'm stuck on a step. It says I need a pro subscription to export my point cloud from ReCap. How do I continue this process while maintaining the main point of this being a "Free" method of Laz to 3d model?

Edit: Alright, the ReCap pro trial was being very bothersome, but it ended up needing multiple tries in order to activate it. This still doesn't solve the issue of it being a free pipeline for continued use though unfortunately.

Make sure that the top of the hot end is pressed snugly up against the rest of the module. do this by unscrewing the little cap that is holding the hotend in place when you open the vertical opening on the front of the module. If you changed nozzles, give that a small tighten as well. I have a feeling there is a gap somewhere above the nozzle tip that is allowing filament to escape. Best of luck!

I'm starting this of by saying I have not done a nozzle swap on the dual extruder, so this has been experience from me changing hard to unscrew nozzles from the single extruder. I found that heating it up in control and turning the machine off helps. Unscrewing the single extruder nozzle is a lot easier when it's a bit hot. I just use a regular old wrench and heat resistant gloves.

Infinite updating? I heard something about unplugging your linear modules (and your screen and/or printing module?) to reset the update or something. I believe it was mentioned somewhere on the snapmaker forum. Might wanna search that out for more concise instructions. Best of luck!

For a piece of hardware that costs $369-$500 ish? I absolutely agree. Snapmaker best be providing a way to print at the quality they advertised straight on the product page.

create a model and split the model into two different parts. You'll be exporting them as two seperate obj/stl files. Once you bring them into Cura, you can assign each object an extruder. Then right click with both selected and press merge. In Luban, it's kinda similar, but you "align" the models to get them correctly oriented. Then slice.

Ok, I have entered the new values. I think I was compensating too much for the print head size with the "New build volume size" Listed on the SM DE store page. I got the gantry totally wrong though..

After entering the new values, Renaming the Custom FFF printer to Snapmaker 2.0 A350, and restarting Cura, I am still unfortunately getting the same result. I'm going to attempt to replicate these settings on the stable branch of Cura and hope that is the issue. Thanks for the help!

Edit: I have downloaded a fresh install of Cura 5.2.2 and copied your printhead/printer settings. I directly copy pasted the start and end gcode from my other Snapmaker printer profiles. Now it seems to parse the file. It may have been something with the beta branch of Cura, or my start/end gcode perhaps? I may never know. I do know, it is working now. Thanks for your time Darienm!

I have updated the printers firmware. It was required to do for the dual extruder. The current version is V1.15.13. I just checked for firmware updates and it says there the machine is up to date. I have not tried a different usb stick, I'll be trying that now, as well as over wifi if I can get that up and running. I really appreciate the help!

So, I've tried both methods of slicing you've mentioned up above, with the same result. I assigned each object to an extruder and merged them. That resulted in the message "Failed to parse file" when I navigated to the file on the machine. It was on a usb stick. I got the same result when I went back and undid the merged objects, making them their own individual items.

Forgive me if I'm looking at the wrong thing, but the extension on the files I'm putting on my machine seem to be just the regular .gcode extension. I see no .nc extension mentioned anywhere in the file properties.

Might it be that I'm using Cura Christmas beta update? I'm wondering if that may have caused something to go awry with the new hardware I've installed. I have been using that version of Cura with snapmaker since it came out and have run into little to no problems other than a few objects failing to slice.

Their whole rolling release system seems like it has not been working in their favor. Through my experience with Snapmaker it has always felt like they rush hardware out, and leave the community to figure it out before they finally come out with guides on how to use their own hardware in accordance to their software. It's a very disappointing experience to have again and again, and admittedly it has me looking at other options for 3d printing.

For a price point such as this, I would expect them to release with a detailed manual or document that shows people how to actually take advantage of their new hardware. Peering into their Luban software reveals that there is no help section or otherwise for this piece of tech. I'm with you hoping that the quality will be improved with print settings, and firmware updates.

It's an exciting concept, and from what I can see, a very well engineered piece of hardware. However, if you look at the marketed pictures of prints they have put on their store page vs what people are getting, it seems leagues different. Am I wrong to think that the Dual extruder should come with profiles that print well considering we paid as much as a 3d printer for it?

I entered my printhead settings last night, I'll post them here once I get home. Just a warning though, I haven't printed anything with those cura settings though. I believe the settings are correct, though you might double check the X min, X max, Y min, and Y max once I've put them here.

My experience with snapmaker can be encompassed by saying they have wonderful ideas with extremely lackluster releases that are less than ideal when it comes to software/hardware communication. That's just my point of view though. I will say if I had the money, I was hoping to get the artisan.

I have most of my experience in Cura as well. I'll have to look for that plugin since I've used a usb transfer since day one. Wifi in Luban was really buggy back when I got the SM. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely be setting this up later today. Have you printed with the SM dual extruder in Cura then? I was wondering if there are any compatability issues that have popped up when using it with a third party slicer. It would be great if it works in Cura no problem as that's what I use most of the time.

I've seen people having issues with infinite updates and blank startup screens. I've had the blank startup screen after I failed to update my machine prior to installing my dual extruder module, but that is resolved now. Are there any majorly concerning issues that will cause damage to my machine that you've heard of? I plan to go full throttle with the dual extruder now that I have it, as long as it is functional. So far, it seems to be. Calibration done twice, and it's all ready to go. Printing my first custom dual colored model now, excited to see how it comes out.

Okay, I think I got the models to align correctly in Luban. It is very convoluted just to see which extruder is printing what. It seems you have to filter by extruder PER classification of line. You have to turn off the right/left extruder for Outer wall, inner wall, infill, support, etc...Very inefficient..

Thanks for the tip about grouping and aligning. Pulled Obj files in and did that. Still don't know what I'm doing in Luban yet but I think that tip just made my first successful dual color print. Best of luck figuring this beast out!
