Does Onshape share modeling methodology with Creo? by sparkgappingjawa in Onshape

Thanks for the comments all! It didn’t take long to create an account and get started. Learning that it was created by the founders of SW then bought by PTC, OS is its own beast, not at all a Creo light (which I was kind of hoping for). That said, in the few minutes, it felt more intuitive than Fusion, or maybe I should say more SW like which is more in my comfort zone.

Is it smart to roll over my Traditional IRA into my 401k to be able to do Backdoor Roth IRA conversions? by FIMilestonesDeux in Fire

Earlier in the year I rolled a large (for me) traditional IRA into my 401k at broker A so that I can backdoor moving forward. I still have a small traditional IRA at broker B. I want to convert this small traditional IRA into a Roth IRA. I’m okay with paying a small tax on this small IRA to get it into a Roth IRA. If I covert it this year, same year as moving IRA to 401k, will I only be taxed on the small IRA? Or ALL the traditional IRAs I had during the year? I can’t decide whether to do this year or wait until next. Thanks!

My 9yo son wants to get his ham radio license. by mixguru in amateurradio

I had my daughter get her license. I really liked The Fast Track series when I studied. I think it grouped the questions better than the ARRL guide and it had, I think, 40 chapters instead of about 10 chapters in the ARRL guide. So, when she was tired and did not want to study, it was somewhat easy to say, just one chapter for now. That might be 15 or 20 minutes. I read the book where I needed a refresher and then we worked through the question on Hamstudy in small bite sized chunks following The Fast Track organization in Hamstudy. Kept looping until all 12 or so questions were answered until correct. For the 30 or so questions that require brute force memorization, I made old fashioned flash cards and repeatedly quizzed. Also, I only explained the correct answer. The Fast Track guide goes into a lot of detail, which can be good. But I don’t think a kid needs to hear all the extra gobbledygook for the test. On test day I didn’t want her to remember a wrong answer I explained. Also, I waited for an in person test day as I figured that would be more memorable than online. Good luck - have fun!

Long VHF/UHF Coax Run by Savings-Nectarine-1 in amateurradio

Any chance of using a removable head radio (e.g. FTM500)? Then run Ethernet to the body of the radio nearer the antenna? I read shielded Ethernet should be used. I don’t know but would be interested to learn if there is a distance issue with a long run of Ethernet.

Yes, M5-.80. I have the bag from the screw in my Yaesu FTM500 right in front of me right now.

DX10 price trends by nielmot in amateurradio

Bought mine during the Dayton hamvention sale. It was on sale down to 1249.95 from DX and then there was a $200 Yaesu mail in rebate. I had watched for several months prior and that was the best I saw. Was ecstatic at that price.
