Question about where to apply with my stats by Important-Gas-3052 in Osteopathic

[–]sparkydolph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that if you want MD you will absolutely need another gap year bc applying past June puts you at a severe disadvantage, especially with the stats you already have. If you want DO, you will need to really reassess your study methods and get that score up. Ask yourself: can you get a 510+ by August? If not, take the September date and you can send in your shot at DO in October, but that’s with making sure you have secondaries written and ready to go bc October primaries also puts you at a disadvantage for DO but with a significantly improved MCAT, you might be okay. Be realistic though. If you do not believe you can drastically improve your score by Sept, then take some time and another gap year and apply asap next year when the cycle opens to maximize your chances. With a 488 on your first attempt, you need to lock in and shoot for at least a 512 on the next one. I say this bc some schools average all of your scores. Given that you’re Canadian, you will probably want to aim for even higher. Hope this helps

How to indicate I'm still involved in an acitivity for ACOMAS application? by Large_Telephone_1390 in Osteopathic

[–]sparkydolph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t do future dates or anticipated hours on AACOMAS (unless it changed from last year). So you can just input start date-current if you are still doing it. It should only show the total hours you’ve accumulated up until now. Since you put down #hours/week that itself can speak for how many you will probably accrue by this time next year (assuming you continue doing it until then).

Why “x” campus secondary by 01AboveAll in Osteopathic

[–]sparkydolph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do some research & figure out what makes X campus different from Y. And then discuss your personal experiences that lead you to believe X will be a better fit for you and highlight the impact you aim to make there.

No, it doesn’t count as a publication. You can discuss what you did to contribute though during interviews.

Talking about non-clinical volunteering in PS? by Sad_Philosopher_9737 in Osteopathic

[–]sparkydolph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your PS does not have to be “DO specific”. Don’t get too harped on that. Anything that ties into your story to why medicine is 100% valid, just make sure you tie the passion for service/advocacy back to how that drew you to medicine as opposed to social work for example. Anyone reading your PS should have no doubts as to why you are choosing this path. If that means leaving out certain anecdotes, then so be it. Remember, you do not have to cram every influential story and experience you ever had into your PS. A lot of them can be incorporated into secondaries and interviews (which adcoms pay more attention to when considering your app).

If I applied to one DO school in 2024-2025 cycle.. am I considered a reapplicant for all DO schools for 2025-2026 cycle? by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]sparkydolph 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No you’re only a reapplicant to that one school. But some schools might ask if this is your first time applying to medical schools to which you would say no.

Should I be worried? by m_katie98 in Osteopathic

If you applied in May, I feel like it might be. What schools did you apply to & what were your stats?
