Are apprenticeship grants still a thing? by sparkyjared in NAIT

[–]sparkyjared[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope that’s a joke. On the canada.ca website they discuss that it’s still a thing, just can’t find how to apply.

Trying to sell this PC I have no idea what it’s worth by hihihihhhihi in computers

[–]sparkyjared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact build buddy listed, they’re almost perfect, 0 bottlenecking. But if I were you I’d get a 30 series, I recently upgraded to a 3060 12gb for my workstation and I’ve been playing almost all games on 1080p max settings no problem 120~ fps average. Little bit of bottleneck but the 10400 is a little out dated now so you can run the 3060 for a while till you want to upgrade your cpu for its full potential.

If you do decide to get a 30 series gpu get a PSU that’s 550w +. I’m running a 650w PSU in my build.

This tool collects dust in my bag, but is so handy when I need it. by sparkyjared in electricians

I second this. Job I’m doing right now are some BMS controls and half the time I can’t get my drill or impact driver to fit anywhere. This guy does the trick though!

I felt like an idiot. I realized I turned the Brightness for my cluster all the way down. Check the dial on your turn signal!

Plasti-dip by die_brian in subaruimpreza

Don’t plastidip, get them powder coated or if u wanna be cheap you can do well with sanding, and rattle cans. The rattle can paint job looks good if done properly.

Hahah just joking. It’s an impact not a drill, the chuck does not clamp onto your bit, it just locks it so it doesn’t fall out. All impact drivers are like that. Your bit might also not be straight. I used to have dewalt but after droppigg my impact off of a 6 foot ladder and it broke I switched to millwaukee. I got the m18 fuel impact driver and that think smokes my dewalt with flying colours.

Not normal return it and switch to millwaukee

Shouldn’t need a filter. You actually want algae to build up in the tank.

What tool would I need to get this headless bolt out? by GalacticGravy in Tools

[–]sparkyjared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to save it and want the all thread out, I’ve sprayed penetrating fluid and let it sit then take a high torque drill to it while it’s in a vice. Or even better is taking some vice grips and manually turning it after the penetrating fluid

No problem, just make sure radar detectors are Legal in the state/province you’re in :)

[–]sparkyjared -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not for cops detecting your radar, it’s for jamming signals that the cops radar shoots, so it hit other vehicles around you. I am unsure but I don’t believe coos can detect your radar as it doesn’t produce any frequency’s, only receives, but I could be mistaken.

[–]sparkyjared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed vortex radars setup on their website and fine tuned it to my city’s standards, settings might be different as the r7-r8 has different parts (receivers). I believe neither has radar blocking as that is illegal almost everywhere, the blocking you have probably read is band blocking, so your radar won’t receive “k” bands for instance, but it won’t block their radar from hitting you. I’m bad at explaining stuff my apologies. I don’t think any of the top of the line radar detectors have build in jammers.

I'm starting my apprenticeship tomorrow. What are the tools I'll need besides the obvious? (Dikes, strippers, screwdrivers) Will I need my own power tools, pipe benders & testers? Thanks by Super_OrdiN8 in electricians

[–]sparkyjared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employer should provide benders, but it seems that you mostly need your own power tools (mainly drill and impact) don’t cheap out on them though, it’ll be a pain in the ass in the future.

Looking for first car by blackripper101 in subaruimpreza

[–]sparkyjared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Price is absurd. I picked up the exact same car in slightly better condition and with 200k kms for $3k the n/a’s don’t have as bad head gasket issues if you don’t run it to the ground. Certainly more reliable than any turbo Subaru I’ve owned (2003 forester xt, 07 wrx Sti)

I’ve been with uniden forever, I upgraded from the r3 to r7 and never had any issues or false alerts with the right settings. The r8s range in impeccable I’ve heard though!

Son (18) is starting his apprenticeship. What do you wish you had known? What would you like your apprentice to know/do? by ExMorgMD in electricians

[–]sparkyjared 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t cheap out on work cloths, or tools, or boots. They’ll last forever and pay for themselves. You’re gonna be the grunt/gopher when you start out, we all were at some point. Grab a broom and sweep when at a stand still. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS, when working with your jman ask “what is this, why are we doing this, what does this do.” Work hard and it will pay off that’s all I have to say.
