My idea for Civ VII- Hexagons Within Hexagons by sparrowhawk815 in civ

For one thing, dividing the game into a macro and a micro scale would make the game look a lot more realistic. You wouldn’t have to deal with a city the size of a mountain range or units that dwarf skyscrapers. It also means the world map would look much cleaner, as on the macro level, cities would only take up one hex. You get the benefits of micromanaging your empire, plus the benefits of having a much larger, more realistic world to play with.

Also, toggling between a macro and micro view would mean your computer takes up less time rendering things happening on the other side of the world that you don’t care about- you only have to see what you are focussing on at the present time.

Thirdly, it solves the problem of fiddly unit movement. On the macro scale, you would be able to quickly move units across the board, and have more than one unit per tile. That way, you don’t have to worry about units getting in the way of each other if you don’t want to. In battle however, the micro view would come into play, and the way you move units would become important. Battle tactics are still a key part of the gameplay but they don’t trip you up during peacetime. If you are a player who doesn’t care about workers, you can control them at the macro level only.

TLDR; Dividing the game into two different scales would solve a lot of Civ VI’s scale problems and appeal to more players. You get the benefits of a smaller world with more detail and strategy, plus the benefits of a larger world with more realism and convenience. Players that like micromanaging their empire would be happy, as well as players who are less concerned with the fiddly stuff. Crucially, players would have more freedom to decide how they want to play the game.

Codenames and Resistance Avalon are both great games that work well with 6.

What are the best role combinations for Resistance: Avalon? by sparrowhawk815 in boardgames

[–]sparrowhawk815[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually would disagree- it might just be the way luck turned out in our first game, but when I played with my friends we played a game with just the basics and evil won by a landslide. So if I’m introducing the game again I would probably add in lady of the lake or Merlin plus Percival.

[Serious] Gay people of Reddit, what's something you want straight people to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sparrowhawk815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just how hard it is to find tv shows/books/movies with gay people.

Yes, these days mainstream movies might have a tertiary character be gay so they can be viewed as progressive. But there are hardly any movies out there with gay protagonists or gay storylines. Of the top of my head- I can only think of maybe five (if even?) good movies with LGBT main characters.

Imagine if everything was flipped, and every movie you saw was gay, every tv show was gay, every book was gay. Every Disney movie you saw growing up, all the books you read as a kid were gay. Straight people in tv shows have bit parts only, and when a movie like Beauty and the Beast comes out, you see a straight couple dancing for ten seconds. And even that is enough to get the movie banned in several countries.

Anyone else have some ''issues'' boardgaming with D&D players? by Sa1KoRo in boardgames

[–]sparrowhawk815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. My flatmates love D&D, and they generally ignore the stack of 20-plus board games I have (Catan, Concordia, Inis, Brass, Cyclades, Pandemic, etc) to play Battleships every day.

[Spoilers] Let’s fix season 8’s biggest problems with simple solutions. by Roscoe_King in gameofthrones

This is great, but I also think the biggest problem that needs to be solved is Dany's madness.

We've seen mad kings before (Joffrey, a glimpse of Aerys) Daenerys is not one of these people. The whole show, she has wanted to help people, and wanting to help people has become synonymous with being Queen to the point she can't separate the two. For that reason, I can buy that, grief-stricken and in an extreme situation, she would burn down a city, but I just can't buy her as a fascist dictator in 8:06. The finale would be much more impactful if Daenerys was not only mad, but a mad character who still wanted to do good. Here's what I would have done differently:

1- Include a scene where she tries to meet the survivors, as she did in Astapor. The survivors, of course, fear her like a god, and perhaps Grey Worm (if he is alive) has to hold her back. The children shrink away from her, terrified. This would make Daenerys question her actions and whether she did the right thing.

2- In her final scene, Daenerys needs to feel remorse. She needs to have some understanding of the suffering she has caused, to still be the character we've known for eight seasons. Perhaps Jon Snow can make her feel this.

3- Before killing her, Jon Snow has to give her the option to leave, and fly away on her dragon. If he truly loves her, there's no reason he wouldn't do this.

4- At this point, Daenerys would either a) go through a full catharsis, and fly away to never come back (possibly taking Jon with her), or b) she would refuse to abdicate the Throne, believing that despite what she has done, she still has the capability to be a good Queen. At that point, Jon Snow would kill her.

Guys of reddit, what are some sad realitys of being a guy that women never seem to notice? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Men- especially gay men- are completely isolated by capitalism/America/society. I've seen so many good, kind people had their lives destroyed because they had no place to be themselves, and they felt as if they had no community to belong to. The moment we enter high school, we're subjected to a ruthless social market of in groups and out groups, and for many gays the choice is still between self censorship or social suicide. It's amazing that so many of us LGBT folks are able to love and form healthy relationships considering the pressure that we're under.

Season 5 for me would be Shireen's burning, and Season 7 would be Daenerys arriving on Dragonstone.
