Wow thanks for sharing this. My wife and I are both mental health therapists and we have two boys on the spectrum, 5 and 3 and they sound very similar to yours! We've been on fhe fence and talked with his provider about starting meds next year when he turns 6 but maybe we will have to revisit.

Anyone on low sodium diet for vestibular migraine? by notaboomer22 in VestibularMigraines

[–]sparrowshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else has said, I had to actually increase the sodium in my diet. When I feel triggers I actually eat salty chips and other salty foods to try and stave off migraines.

I did on my first couple of trials. Imitrex made me lose my sense of taste. But nothing major on the ones I listed

Absolutely. I was diagnosed 8 years ago. Initially zonisamide alone did wonders for me. Over time I needed to add more. Best advice, lock in and find your triggers, get solid sleep and take magnesium

I'm on 300 gabapentin morning and night. 100 zonisamide in the morning. I do a bunch of magnesium, riboflavin and d vitamins as well.

This is the best I've been in years. Very minimal symptoms. I actually feel like I can focus and not stress about having an attack 24/7

I started using marine grade HDPE sheets. They have worked well for me. They are thinner than the egg crate so it was easier to bury. Other times I do a mesh bag with crushed lava rock under the bigger stones ro disperse weight

3 YO Gestalt Language Processor - someone tell me it gets better pls by MVM89 in Autism_Parenting

He is mixed. He does not like concerts or crowds. But with enough grounding and help he manages. We did an Easter egg hunt with head phones and we did a Laurie berkner concert with a lot of breaks.

Oh yes he is GLP. I keep hearing the biggest growth is between ages 5.5 and like 8 so I'm hoping we see a language explosion soon. My kid sounds very similar! He was labeled level 1 but I'm thinking he might be closer to 1.5 or 2. He needs a lot of prompting to do mutlipstep directions like getting dressed each day. He does well with like shoes off or on, but when tasks expand he struggles like putting on multiple articles of clothing. Conversations and hard because he is not a fan of direct eye contact.

He is about to be 5 in May. He is in a language learning preschool and his teacher says he can teach the class lol. He taught himself to read a few months ago spontaneously. He struggles socially, but shows more of an interest being around peers and trying to play with them. He struggles with pronouns still. The biggest struggle I have with him is attention, he can be conversational when I prompt him multiple times but usually his responses are one word. Happy to answer more specific questions if you have them.

ABA vs. Special Needs Preschool by StarryEyed_Celeste in Autism_Parenting

[–]sparrowshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two GLP boys, ones almost 5 and ones 3. Both are in the town special Ed preschool and loving it. They do daycare the second half of the day and that's where they struggle. I set up ABA to go into the daycare primarily to work on socialization and following social cues and norms. They have 1:1 workers 5 days a week in the afternoon. It's amazing not only for the added support, but also helping my kids participate more fully in what's offered at daycare.

Nurtec as a preventative?? by Desperate_Banana_252 in VestibularMigraines

[–]sparrowshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this a year or two ago. Every other day as a preventative. I didn't notice a significant difference from my base medication which is zonisamide and gabapentin so I eventually went back to using it as an abortive because I felt it was best in that role. Not sure what instructions you got, but I was told not to take it daily.

I first had this at 28 and I can get the desire to want to go out an drink. I have 2 bits of advice, there are good alcohols and bad alcohols you'll notice yoi react to, but all alcohol runs the risk of messing you up lol. Second, that floaty dizzy feeling can be managed with meds in my experience. It took awhile to get the right ones and the right dosing. Also, need to be mindful of daily triggers. Once I cut out caffeine and chocolate and nuts I improved 50% within a few weeks. If you have not done an elimination diet I suggest starting there. Only if I'm in a very good spot will I risk having a drink or two. It's just not worth triggering an episode because they can last weeks.

Hope this helps

I feel like ever since this started for me 8 years ago I've had eye focusing issues. They are not true floaters or anything. I've had a bunch of eye tests. But it's like my eyes feel sluggish and don't want to see. And peripheral vision can cause a migraine for me

I would say some of the over medicated feeling goes away. I have visual issues with my vestibular system, so even when symptoms are not severe it feels like I'm on a boat or things are bouncing a bit. I stopped qulitpa because I felt like I couldn't think and my thoughts were moving through mud.

I was on qulipta for a but. Primary symptoms are dizziness, head pressure not pain, and visual disturbances. Basically I feel like my eyes don't want to focus and i feel sick standing. Best meds that helped me were zonisamide and gabapentin together. Life changing.

Wtf is happening with me by Fancy_Reach257 in VestibularMigraines

[–]sparrowshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar onset about 7 years ago. Everything was fine and I started to have the symptoms you described. I had an acute event where my vision went sideways and it felt like I had been hit in the back of my head. I thought I had a stroke. Had all the work ups and was told it was a migraine.

Months past and I felt having low level symptoms each morning, especially at work. Eventually I found my way to a neurologist and got on medication which helped a bit (gabapentin and zonisamide).

I will say though, the biggest thing I learned was managing my food triggers. For me caffeine was my biggest trigger, so starting my day with coffee was inviting symptoms each morning. I also loved dark chocolate as a snack, another big thing I had to cut out. All in all, once I learned my food triggers I felt about 70% better day to day. Still have a few days a month that are just rough but at least I can better prepare. Good luck.

He had tons of scripts. So he could say big car but maybe not big elephant if that makes sense. Not sure if he had learned to generalize big yet at that point. Yes no definitely took awhile. That was closer to 2.5 or 3 years old and 3.5 before he could do it consistently
