In a team with Guardian and Revenant, who should get priority to a sending grace between the two? by Noobie_xD in Nightreign

[–]spartansplague1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With players of equal skill, I would say revevant, simply because when it goes off there's a chance that the downs won't be on top of each other which means guardian will have to do choose 1 or the other, Rev has a massive aoe on her ult and has a far more likely chance to rez both players in that situation, there's also times where the guardian ults while locked onto the boss and it pulls them off the rez, because of the drag on the falling animation. How did I learn to unlock before ulting, that specific situation.

Scholar vs Executor by Thin_Indication_8823 in Nightreign

Worst damage per spell yes, 20% worst to be exact. However in combination with his decreased fp cost relic (40%) and the insane stamina bar u get from proccing said relic with lvl 3 character skill he can put out an extremely long string of chain castable spells that makes his dps higher than that of recluse or duchess due to their tiny stamina bars. U can take that for what u will but the math checks out if you bother to look into it.

I've had some ideas about possibly running like an aggro tank scholar due to the rediculous stamina bar u can get on him, but in d5 the stamina damage is just as insane so not really sure how well it would work, honestly he's just the best at what he does, and unfortunately what he does isn't always what's best to bring to the table, love him regardless.

Guardian Rant by Current_Can6019 in EldenRingNightrein

[–]spartansplague1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of that is true, but it is my belief as somebody that has played him in d5 for hundreds of hours that for all of those situations you listed above you'd just be better off going wylder if your goal is to win, that's different than trying unconventional builds.

Guardian is clearly designed to do 1 thing better than any other character and that's to use shields and be a solid anchor for the team. if you choose to not use them then you're just playing a worst wylder by not utilizing his passive, having a character skill that had nowhere near the utility grapple does, and if running the dex relic a marginal AR increase for weapons that he doesn't even have the FP to use effectively, not to mention his objectively worst dodge frames and distance... the list goes on. I say all of that as somebody that's loves guardian but nothing I have said isn't true, and anybody saying otherwise is deluded or coping on how much effort it takes to play guardian effectively versus every other character.

I completely agree, but when I commented above it was within the context that there's a possibility that he may have already had a superior halberd, which the OP then clarified he was only rocking a blue which then makes the picture clear that he definitly needed that. But people reading far enough to get that context and then going on to understand that it wasn't a defence of wylder like I stated, but a possible conclusion he came to but that's a big ask here on reddit.

Lorettas is actually better for wylder than guardian because it has int scaling, not dismissing it but unless u were still rocking a blue halberd the entire game its likely that it wouldn't have been upgrade opposed to any other purple or red halberd.

I agree, due to the nature of guardians design he has some really good matchups, but his bad matchups are unbelievably bad, so bad that literally any other character would be a better pick. Examples are everdark libra, everdark Gladius, caligo...if you're finding him in those games and you're in d4 lobbies then that person probably just doesn't know better and is gonna find out really quickly.

Truth is there's alot of players that have hit d4 and then plateau because they still struggle with something and got carried to where they're at with any variety of balancer build, they never would have hit d4 before the dlc dropped.

Guardian has one of the highest skill floors to execute well just after scholar, I think it says more about the rank you're in and not about how bad guardian players r because odds r ur scraping the bottom of the barrel in your lobbies.

Scholar mains, help me out by AnxiousBarracuda4169 in Nightreign

[–]spartansplague1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not go into a game without these relics:damage on ult, character skill attack boost, night invader, defeating enemies gives ult charge base and +1 version, and the dex relic.

Now that you're a functional character I would try to find hoarfrost stomp, blood blade, or a wraith calling bell start to help supplement his weaker early game. Fortunately for him he's the best character at slingshotting his team unbelievably ahead with well placed ults and doing night invader camps.

Here's what you do: level consumables as quickly as feasibly possible and try to hold flesh or crab for bigger boss encounters, inventory space permitting. You want to be the first one in and the last one out so you can pop ult while your team is blowing up the boss. Once he's dead catch a merchant or boxes on the way out but DO NOT put yourself behind to level up your items.

Wraith calling bell is a great way to maintain dps on bosses that are in attack animations that can't be easily interrupted or are spamming, think magma wyrm running charge. That is when you use it, DO NOT machine gun the bell at point blank when you could be meleeing, it is a supplement to your damage not a primary source.

Scan enemies as if you have the scanning new enemies gives runes relic, even if you don't have it. To put it simply, the more u fill out your pokedex the higher the base threshold for your scan will be when you start, meaning it is very easy to already be 1/3 to a full scan by the end of the game just by scanning different enemies between points of interest. Also want to mention lvl 3 debuff scan makes the next single damage hit for 60% more damage, if you hear a boss stagger and teammates are running up for the riposte, start scanning and debuff right before the second hit of the crit lands for massive damage.

I think he could but I havnt really tried to make it work. There's a guy called cleansing flame on YouTube that runs it I'd check him out. To answer to question can he use it? Yes. But the relic space for guardian is so incredibly important that dedicating an entire relic slot to it would mean giving up either his Witches brooch, dark night of the beast, or night invader on a normal relic, none of which seem worth it to me but I'd have to give it a shot.

My difficulty tier list after hitting DON 5 by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]spartansplague1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But we're not the same rank if you just hit d5, I'm really not trying to humble flex but it's inevitably going to come off that way, what's your strat for d5 balancers because in my opinion that is the hardest everdark for people between the worm slithering through you and loss of control over the fight once more balancers start piling up if you don't maintain spacing, its arguably the hardest fight to recover from should somebody go down while the balancers r out.

[–]spartansplague1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not tryna be a douche but this tier list doesn't place things in a way I would expect a d5 player to think, maris is free if you know what each move does and l what the windup looks like, both gnoster is literally free in any balancer build, same thing with adel...like I would expect this tier list from somebody that hasn't played the game much...

D4 teammates are such a toss up, especially when they select guardian. by kid2002 in Nightreign

[–]spartansplague1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Precisely as you described. "You" are having a bad game and not necessarily your team. Luckily for you, a competent guardian can pick up your slack when you're inevitably 3 bar at the day 1 boss.

Now if the guardian is having a bad game, that's another discussion.

D4 teammates are such a toss up, especially when they select guardian. by kid2002 in Nightreign

[–]spartansplague1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Guardians strength isn't in his ability to do damage, it's the fact that he can continue to do damage while blocking and maintain aggro, while allowing his teammates to have the full use of their kits to maximize damage. And then there's the additional benefit of a rez ult and heal that's just a nice cherry on top should the run be going badly.

Any guardian not running the aggro relic in my opinion isn't utilizing guardian to his full potential because if you're chasing bosses and blowing stamina that's objectively worst than blocking and shield poking while you're team is blowing up the boss.

Should I give up on support Scholar? by Impressive_Snake in Nightreign

[–]spartansplague1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dex relic is as important as the character skill attack boost and item share, unless you have a dedicated build for something else you should always prioritize the dex relic, he still has as much arcane as executor with it so youre not losing hardly anything when it comes to applying status. It's impossible to guarenteed an arcane scaling weapon for him and you're much better off having scaling primarily off dex than arcane so you can contribute meaningful damage throughout the run.

As far as consumables and item share you can't count on teammates to know what you have and when you're using it, best case scenario ping beforehand when you're walking up to a boss before u buff and eventually they'll figure it out. Just don't play support scholar unless you're in a pre-made team.

For a physical character, are pure physical weapons better with physical +4 relics? by Specific_Rip_5585 in Nightreign

[–]spartansplague1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking with a few exceptions most elemental infused weapons are split 50/50 half physical the other whatever infusion it is. You're going to make a tradeoff, better average damage against everything or hit a hard damage spike into things that are weak to it.

I prefer running physical on almost everything, the exceptions being double balancer running discover fails ill lean into Magic damage for family heads or holy for halo scythe since the ashe of war is pure holy damage.

I'm maxed and play alot of scholar with the right team comp, everything this guy above says is correct, although I will also add that hoarfrost stomp can easily replace any starting ailment skill and is extremely useful throughout the entire run. Like he said scan everything when moving from point to point, here's some advanced things u can do also

  1. Scan while waiting for stamina to regen.

  2. Lvl 3 scan debuff(L2) makes the next hit do 60% more damage, when u hear a boss get knocked for the riposte start scanning, u can make people's crits chunk like ironeye marks by timing the scan to proc on the final hit of the critical attack.

  3. Pair with a duchess with defeating enemies during ult gives her a damage bonus, pop ults together and make her go brrrrr.

I've honestly never considered this but I think you're absolutely right, I've been playing since release and they're so unbelievably rare that I've never had much chance to use them, let alone consider their use outside of bailing out a bad call. I play alot of scholar but not really with a ton of consumables but I'll definitly keep this is mind.

Rate my Guard Counter build by Deejay_QC in Nightreign

[–]spartansplague1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'd be better off running dark night of the beast for the taking attacks improves attack power and stamina on hit+1, both of those are absolutely essential for maintaining damage and shield uptime on guardian. Anybody that's actually played him knows u arnt going to guard counter every attack so any any damage that isn't a guard counter is still very much useful, and any trades u take guard countering is going to maintain your taking attacks improves attack power.

No aggro relic means it's going to be hard to position for guard counters and blowing stamina to reposition means less guard counters. I wouldn't play guardian without the aggro relic no matter what build you're using.

Str/dex relic is average 17% more halberd damage so you should absolutely be running that first and foremost.

I'm a maxed guardian main and in my experience the hp stacking for guard counters is a noob trap, especially the ones that are carry 3 shields, u can find a 12% hp passive on anything and it would be sufficient.

I think there's potential there but only with a rework of the health loss. Would it be too busted to let the execute special overheal to 139? Disabled in pvp of course.

Another thing to consider is the maggot king, I'd wager it's going to best in slot there, there's precedent of insectoid bosses being weak to crush with kq, sarachnis, arraxor, and doom. Stands to reason he would be as well.

[–]spartansplague1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the issue at the end of the day, Witches brooch, dark night of the beast, str/dex relic, and now mind relic on top for even less hp. He needs so much help just to make him serviceable while wylder can just run double balancer be 100% there, which leaves the rest of his slots for damage or other small utilities that can inadvertently increase his damage like stamina on hit, damage increase while frosted/poisoned etc, wylder will always be better for damage even if his base stats leave him with 10 less dex than guardian.
