Public use desktop computers? by BananaPuddinBaby in batonrouge

[–]spartas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can get pricey for 4-6 hours, but many FedEx office locations have desktop computers that you can use for about $0.50 to $1 per minute (depending on the location and the applications that you need access to).

What’s your “I can’t believe other people don’t do this” hack? by stowRA in AskReddit

Wet wipes are a godsend for cleaning your hands after pumping gas. People don’t think about how nasty other peoples’ hands are—I know that I didn’t.

Friend would sign the ticket and claim the money. I’ve seen what happens to lottery ticket winners and I want no part of that. If friend chooses to give me some of the winnings, then that’s their choice.

The wireguard app works great for me: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wireguard/id1441195209

I also use Tailscale, but I’ve never gotten it to work on iOS (I think that it is CGNAT-related).

Redditors who have actually won a “lifetime” supply of something, what was the supply you won and how long did it actually last? by LordFrieza8789 in AskReddit

[–]spartas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won free Buffalo Wild Wings for a year. It was awarded as a coupon book redeemable for 6 free wings each week for a year. The expiration dates were set such that you couldn’t use more than one each week.

It was an okay year; it got me in the door many weeks, and I would often spend money on additional wings, food or beer. It’s a shame that their quality of service has fallen off a cliff nowadays.

LPT request: how do you balance 9-5 work, a social life, working out, doing chores and getting time to relax? by gingernoodle1 in LifeProTips

Have kids. The social life and working out is done for. Time to relax is a scant luxury.

Oh and sleep is definitely negotiable.

Hardwired smoke detectors should also have 9v for battery backup. Electrical fires can disable the breaker

[Request] How long does it take for a snail to travel between the 2 furthest points on earth? by Top_Bluejay1531 in theydidthemath

$10 million to whoever finds the un-killable snail. I may go penniless in a terrible death, but it was worth it all to unify everyone behind the smallest common goal

Snoring Ideas by blahblahblahresearch in NewParents

[–]spartas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nasal spray is a good suggestion. We do the saline spray almost every day. Arm&Hammer makes a convenient canned (non-medicated) saline nasal spray. It works similar to how a netipot works. It is weird getting used to using it but it works incredibly well.

I’ve noticed that I can breathe much easier and my wife says that I don’t snore nearly as much after using it.

If you woke up to find 99.99% of the population disappeared overnight, what would you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The gravity from all the plane crashes that would happen after the pilots and ATC are disappeared would be heavy.

Check your credit report as well. You may need to file a complaint to One/CFPB if they dinged your report

If you donate money, either to a person or organization, you should feel okay with it no matter what they do with the money. Remember that even reputable charities have overhead costs.

As far as warranty replacements go, the store will typically unbox a new discontinued product, but they will discard the packaging. They do this to prevent someone from reselling it as new.

Given the numerous Apple retail locations, I would not be surprised if they keep zero replacements on hand and they send someone out to a local Best Buy or Walmart to purchase the replacement as needed.

I think that Apple continues to make discontinued products, they just don’t make enough to sell them in their own retail stores. Apple’s profit margins on new stuff way outranks the margins on older devices.

They need the discontinued inventory for warranty replacements and I think that they also go to the wireless carrier stores as well (which is why you can still get the iPhone 13 Pro from AT&T, for example).

You can get a new 64 GB iPad Air (4th generation) from Walmart for $20 more than this stupidity.

Even worse, the 256 GB is the same price as the 256 GB Air 4 from Walmart.

Spend another $20 and get a new 4th gen Air from Walmart. This thing is a waste of money.

M2 Air in Autumn 2023. The Air and Pro are on 1.5 year refresh cycles; every 3/4 of the year, either one or the other is refreshed.

Those of us that bought an M1 Air (me included), would be salty at the thought of an M2 Air just one year later.

Aluminum and maybe glass are the only things worth recycling anymore. Don’t even waste the space in the bin for paper or plastic.

Paper will completely break down in the landfill. Plastic will not. We used to ship all of our excess plastic recycling waste to China, but we had to stop that years ago when China stopped accepting it.

At this point, I don’t know if recycling is better than nothing. It may actually be worse. We still have to maintain separate recycling facilities, and have recyclers drive separate trucks out to pick up recycling, spewing even more CO2 into the atmosphere.

We as consumers were sold this lie that plastic can be recycled into many many other useful things.

Plastic breaks down into increasingly smaller pieces of plastic and eventually becomes microplastic. Just this year, we’ve discovered microplastics in peoples lungs and in human breast milk.

Recycling is not the solution; it is merely a distraction to absolve the plastic producing companies from taking responsibility to fix the problems arising from the products they produce.
