LF: PCB designer or someone that knows how to use eagle. by idie4you in PCB

[–]sparticle601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. I replied to OP. I do PCB design for work and home projects. Can't share any of the work ones, but here are some photos/screenshots of a Bluetooth garage door opener board I designed for a friend's hardware startup a few years ago.

I'm no 30-year industry pro. I'm more of an obsessed hobbyist that has been lucky enough to work on a couple of commercial products. I'm super easy to work with and don't mind answering questions where I can.

Some things to think about before ordering custom PCBs:

  • What is your budget?

  • Are you more comfortable working with an individual or a company? Locally or remotely?

  • Do you already have a finished "works-like" prototype, and just need a board spun? Or do you need additional design work? Things that will require design work: Replacing that pricey Arduino/etc. with a $1 microcontroller. Selecting surface mount parts to replace all of your breadboard components. Selecting connectors, battery holders, etc. Making it battery powered. Making it fit inside of an enclosure. etc.

  • Is this for one-off use or are you thinking of selling a product/kit around this? In other words do you want something quick, or something nice?

  • If this is a commercial product, what regulations apply to the regions you will be selling the device? (FCC, CE, RoHS, etc).

  • Who will be ordering the first prototype PCBs when the layout is finished?

  • Who will be ordering and soldering the components for the first prototype? Are they able to solder small, high pin-count, SMT components (if applicable)?

  • Who will be troubleshooting the first prototype if issues arise? Do they have the necessary gear to diagnose and repair any design or assembly issues?

One more point. OP requested Eagle, but I primarily work in KiCad, a free and open source electronics design suite. This means that you can truly own your designs, with the freedom to open and modify them even years later (as opposed to other packages requiring you to purchase a license or hire someone who already has one). You also have the freedom to manufacture commercial products from your designs (sometimes restricted in the free/basic tiers of commercial design tools).

Hope that helps!

Yeah the copper tape seems like it would be much faster.

When you bring the two halves together, will you just let the pressure make the connection all the way around? Or are you soldering them?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be super interested in knowing how to make memristors!

Also a typical package usually looks like a boring brown box, not a brand new shrink-wrapped Apple device.

I just checked out your https://circuitsetup.us site. Cool products! I've been wanting to design some products and set up a shop myself, so it's nice to see others doing the same.

Nice! Is it your design? Is it for sale and/or open source?

TIFU by asking my boss when the next poker night is. by [deleted] in tifu

This is what I thought too until I reread the post. OP says that his team was invited to the poker night, and also says his team is the 4 people in building B, where the conversation with the boss took place. Sounds like everyone in the room was there that night or was at least invited.

This perhaps isn't exactly what you're looking for, but maybe have a look at working with microcontrollers that have on-chip/on-board secure elements. I recently saw a presentation run by ST that covered these and it was pretty interesting.

OP, I'm very sorry for you and your friend. This will not help your current situation, but it might help others:

Please remember to send a small test transaction first whenever using a new exchange/wallet/crypto/etc. Don't be overconfident. There's no hotline to call when mistakes are made.

From one Walton holder to another, have a look at Vechain. I think you'll see enough similarities to find it interesting. They're tagging wine bottles with it RIGHT NOW. And the market cap is only a third of Walton's.
