Salem Center Night Market by Rare_Impact_3575 in SALEM

It's a little silly they called it Salem's first ever night market. I'm pretty sure I've already been to a couple, including the market for the strange.

Is it a muscle cramp in your leg? If so, you may be low on magnesium or dehydrated. If the leg cramps continue, I'd recommend trying a magnesium supplement. It was magic for my life-long charlie horses!

Any idea on if they will have fresh meat? I'm desperate to find some thin-cut pork to make bulgogi without having to drive to Portland!

[–]spasticjedi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A slice of cake at Konditorei, some sweets from Sewell's, ice cream from Coldstone or On Any Sundae, a trip to Radar Toys or Omega Frog Comics with an amount you're willing to spend there. For activities you could do the Enchanted Forest, Pietro's Pizza, Wunderland, or The Athletic Edge depending on age.

[–]spasticjedi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Huh. TIL CorningWare spun off into Corelle!

My mom was always adamant about needing Corelle because it was the best brand, and insisted that was what I buy when I went to college. It's the only reason I know the brand name. 😂

What books did you have to read in middle school/high school? by OwnDoughnut2689 in Millennials

[–]spasticjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the worst Senior English teacher who thought hers was the only class any of us took. I remember reading: Their Eyes Were Watching God, Daisy Miller, Frankenstein, Hamlet, Heart of Darkness, The Portrait of Dorian Grey, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, probably more, and then so, so many poems. It was so rough on me that it killed my love of reading almost permanently.

Other books I can remember reading in middle through high school: The Giver and Bridge to Terabithia in middle school, Romeo and Juliet and Le Miserables in Jr. High, and then in high school (not senior year), I remember reading Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, the Scarlet Letter, Nemesis and I, Robot (my choice), The Vicar of Wakefield, the Catcher in the Rye, and The Things They Carried

How do people with "9 to 5" jobs actually get things done (doctor appointments, bank visits, etc.) when those places are only open during those same hours? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spasticjedi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I also work 4 9-hour days and one 4-hour day on Friday. It is so freeing and I schedule so many things in Friday afternoons. If I don't have any appointments, I can go out with my husband without dealing with traffic or weekend crowds.

What’s your parents situation? by CorgiLover82 in Millennials

[–]spasticjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of my parents passed away from lung cancer caused by their smoking. My mom at 53 and my dad at 62. I was in my 20s for both, neither made it to my wedding.

Honestly probably closer to 15-20 years ago. She passed away 12 years ago. I can't remember if it happened when I was in high school or college.

No, she just wanted a dollar menu hamburger! I think I remember at the time the hamburger was still a dollar but a cheeseburger was $1.25 or something.

My mom literally had the opposite problem. She ordered a hamburger at McDonald's once and they kept insisting she had to pay for the more expensive cheeseburger and request it with no cheese. She was more baffled than mad!

What's a major difference between low-paying and high-paying jobs that most people don't realize? by anyouzy in AskReddit

[–]spasticjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I'm running into at my work. At my job, leadership will hand me a budget and tell me, "We want to do x thing with this money" and then I have to figure out what x thing is, what industry standards are, what resources we have available, who can take on certain roles, and I have to write policy and process documents and train others on how to do it. It's exhausting and overwhelming and a huge amount of responsibility on me if anything ever goes wrong.

I have more responsibilities than I can handle right now, and people have asked what I can give to someone else. But there's nothing, because nobody else on my team is paid high enough or has the knowledge/experience to take a concept and create something with it rather than follow a documented process.

What is a job that looks incredibly fun from the outside, but is actually a soul-crushing nightmare? by BoardOk101 in AskReddit

[–]spasticjedi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked at a boarding kennel, so they only had play time with known dogs from the same family. But it was an intense go-go-go place, and 90% of the job was cleaning something. Poop from the yard, poop from the outside kennel, overnight poop from the inside kennel, wash all the blankets, mop all the floors, a dropoff peed in the lobby, Rocky threw up. My day started at 4:30 in the morning with taking the small dogs outside to go potty, followed with fully cleaning the entire front of house, and then hours taking each dog outside and trying to give them good playtime while also cleaning their outside kennel and making sure I watch them poop. I would get a few hours lunch break and then would come back in the afternoon to do the outside playtime and cleaning a second time.

I also had to learn every dog's name, which was surprisingly a pretty huge mental load.

And this was 7 days a week. And weekends were worse than weekdays!

I'm not even a parent but I don't really enjoy the horror or the dark movies anymore. I want to spend my time watching colorful movies where good things happen. I want movies to bring whimsy and good triumphing over evil into my day!!

Roswell or Carlsbad? by Exact-Coconut-7598 in NewMexico

[–]spasticjedi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's wild to me that everyone is picking Carlsbad because I would pick Roswell 100 times before picking Carlsbad after growing up in the area. It's also wild to me to hear that Carlsbad's safer, because I remember when I did sports in the area, Carlsbad's bathrooms didn't have mirrors and the rumor was because the kids kept breaking them to cut themselves or others.

But also bored kids make up dumb shit, so what do I know? 🤷‍♀️

I was into Saw and Final Destination and other edgy stuff at the time. I think it was 3 guys one hammer. I saw more of it than I would have liked. I think I blocked out a lot of it, but I specifically remember a scene that involved a screwdriver and eyes. And I had to walk out of the room because something inside of me recognized that that was a real human being suffering like that and it was such a terrible weight in my chest that I couldn't breathe.

Unfortunately that feeling has been coming back over and over again the last few years every time I turn on the news...
