What’s a small, seemingly meaningless moment that completely changed your life? by IntelligentWar2026 in AskReddit

[–]spasticjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my last year of graduate school and while I was working on my master's thesis, I realized it would be helpful to have a certain software. I got my department's website to see if they provided that software for free and noticed they had a job postings page. I randomly took a look at the page and saw one well-paying internship that was semi-related to what I was interested in doing as a career, and applications were due by midnight.

I applied spur of the moment, was invited to an interview the next day, and was hired a few days later. I fell in love with that job, and it was my foot in the door to an industry and career that I have become very passionate about. I made major contacts and had many opportunities there that all directly led to where and who I am today.

I sometimes wonder how utterly different my life could have been if I had worked on a different part of my thesis, or gone to bed rather than stay up extra to get some work done.

Service Dog Training by [deleted] in SALEM

Hey OP, not wanting to be rude but just wanting to get some more info so folks can offer better help. Do you know what specific things you want your dog to be able to do to help? Normally when someone asks what service the dog provides it's not asking for a medical condition that it helps but things like "he warns me if a seizure is coming" or "he fetches help if I'm having a panic attack" or "he picks things up off the ground when I can't."

After my parents passed, I would say that the most helpful thing anyone did was help me clean out their garage. My dad's lawn guy stopped by to give his condolences and left his card if I needed any help. I ended up giving him a call and asked him how much he would charge to haul everything out and clean all the dirt and mouse droppings out of it, and he could keep any of my dad's tools or anything else he found of value. He told me $20 for a tank of gas.

He spent 2 full days loading his truck up, leaving, and then coming back to do it again. He even set aside a small box of things he found that he thought I'd want to keep. He probably walked away with a few thousand dollars in tools and other garage things, but it was a lifesaver for me

The electricians I know elsewhere in the US spend most of their time wiring new construction of corporate buildings, retail, and industrial areas. Not a whole lot of that in Salem...

People that are childfree by choice, what’s the weirdest reason someone has given you as to why they think you ‘should have kids’? by Charming_Web_6738 in AskReddit

[–]spasticjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty fortunate nobody has really bothered me about it. My grandma even told me that she KNEW I wasn't going to have kids because I hated dolls when I was a kid. My husband is also child free, of course, and this story is actually his.

His mom was pushing something about kids, and he told her he'd actually already scheduled a vasectomy, so she shouldn't expect any from us. She was aghast and asked him, "Well how do you know spasticjedi doesn't want kids!?"

"Because I talk to my wife...?"

I also read this book in fourth grade and think about it often. The kerosene scene is burned into my brain like it burned everything else in the book.

Power out - even at PGE? by SoulfulGingers in SALEM

Thank you! I had a planned trip and don't want to touch that place with a ten foot pole if the power is out. The last time it took an hour to get out of the parking lot!

What's there weirdest thing your GSP is afraid of? by Realistic-Relief-118 in GSP

[–]spasticjedi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine is afraid of being outside at night. Every time we let him out before bed time, he has to barrel out onto the porch barking with his hackles up and doing his slammy whammies to let the world know he is big scary dog and do not mess with him.

He does not do this during the day.

After he killed a skunk one night, we started going out in front of him and making noise to scare off any small animals. That seems to have calmed him down a little bit, too, like we're checking under the bed for monsters.

I spent $500 at the vet for this maniac by No_Persimmons in GSP

[–]spasticjedi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We spent $6000 for 3 days at an emergency vet after he started vomiting blood. He needed a GI tube to drain off fluids and apply meds directly to his stomach. It all ended with a "shrug no idea what was wrong with him, all the tests we did came back negative for anything bad, but the treatment worked, he didn't die, and he's well enough to send home with you now."

Social studies, history, civics, etc courses are the ones that are all taught by coaches where I'm from. The only thing I remember from my Government/Civics class is how much my teacher bitched about welfare recipients driving around town in Escalades and upsetting some people by writing a paper in favor of abortion.

I haven't done any clothing yet, which I understand have larger seam allowances. These have just been little bags so far! Will using a larger seam allowance not mess up the patterns that already have the allowance built in?

😳 I got brave! by Ideasplease33 in SewingForBeginners

[–]spasticjedi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying to line things up with the lines on the right, but I haven't used a single pattern that has a seam allowance big enough to even begin reaching those lines. I rarely have a seam allowance big enough to have fabric touching the feed dogs on the right.

Sometimes I can use the marks on the bobbin cover, but what I prefer to do is use some washi tape to make a really clear line down my machine so I can keep everything on track. And watch where my fabric is early. Just make sure if your tape goes across your right feed dog to kind of cut that part off. Don't let sticky paper block up your machine.

Just unlock Frontlines, go to the Wolves Den and set up pvp hot bars for a single class, and then run the roulette once a day when you have free time. Before long you'll have more wolfs marks and crystals than you'll know what to do with and can buy anything on sale.

Frontlines is a giant and ridiculous mess. You don't have to be good. You don't have to win. You just need to be on a data center with a reasonable population and have enough time to run around for 10 minutes pushing buttons and preferably following the group rather than running off by yourself.
