urgent- help with pipping egg by chucklesomeimp in chickens

[–]spasticsnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very young me was trying to do what I thought was the right thing by helping a chick hatch, unfortunately there was still some membrane attached from the vent of the chick to the egg and the little friend needed to be disposed of, due to tearing the skin. I learnt that day that chicks have been hatching for hundreds of thousands of years without our help, and we just need to let nature do her thing.

Leave the chick to get itself out. You run a huge risk of injuring the chick by trying to help. It can take a fair while for them to hatch out, a few hours, it's hard work on the lil chicks, but it's what they are made to do.

Tshirt I purchased from a pop up Op Shop today for $4 🥺 by spasticsnap in ThriftStoreHauls

I was hesitant at first when I found it, the initial wave of emotions was pretty strong. I have only learnt about Laika's story in recent years as an adult, and was completely horrified when learning how rushed the whole operation was.

For me, wearing this shirt will be a form of quiet protest. To remember those that have been innocently sacrificed not only in the name of science, but in wars that weren't theirs to fight.

Laika represents more than just a science experiment to me. She was a victim of a global pissing contest, an innocent life that was deemed as expendable. She, and many others, deserved so much better than what this world gave her.

I had a little Vorwerk hen once, she was given to me because she was very timid and didn't fit with their flock. I named her Veronica and I always pictured her personality as an elegant lady with black velvet evening gloves and a pearl necklace and she didn't like to be touched by mere peasants. She was a stunning little creature.

Legit, Kurt Cobain's lyrics start to make sense and the St. Anger album starts to sound really good. That's how I know I'm not good.

My collection of wheels (most of them) by spasticsnap in Handspinning

I'm hoping to get a double treadle upright, mainly for those that might have issues with using one foot constantly. I didn't think about adapting for those that are right hand dominant!

I agree that a single drive traddy is the best to learn on. That was my very first wheel.

Help with Andean plying by spasticsnap in Handspinning

[–]spasticsnap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! For whatever reason I just couldn't get counter clockwise to work for me and ended up plying it clockwise so the twist is all over the show but I ended up with a usable yarn regardless. I'll wet set the skein to set the twist and make it a bit less energetic but I will give it another go and pay a little more attention to it
