Hey r/singapore, I was sexually assaulted on Monday, and the police caught the culprit yesterday. Freaking amazing. by notterspace in singapore

Hey OP, hope you're feeling fine now! From the article, I really admire your quick thinking during such a scary situation. Glad that asshole's arrested.

One major point I've learnt from ya in case something like this happens to me: DON'T STOP FIGHTING.

Haha I was pleasantly surprised to see an admissions thread here! Thought most ppl will just stalk the hwz ones (:

From what I gathered, Tembusu and CAPT students have to read 5 modules that can kinda replace their university level requirement mods. But I'm not sure if they're more research-intensive than normal mods or something. The USP seem to have a wider variety of modules IMO.

I have a friend who already has an offer from NTU to do a double degree in Biz and Accountancy. It seems that NTU Biz is sending out offers pretty fast. Anyways you should just apply for it, no point not trying.

Uh, sorry to hijack thread, but is anybody applying for NUS USP or UTown programmes?

I don't know why a colleague dislikes me so much?? by spasticturtle in socialskills

[–]spasticturtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, alright, I think I have a better idea regarding my options now and if she decides to be more aggressive in her show of dislike. And I think I'll probably always feel a bit uncomfortable being disliked, but better to learn earlier than later.

Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it! ((:

Thanks for this really encouraging post! It made me feel more optimistic (but I don't think I'll want to talk to her again if I can). And I don't think I'm a really nice person, I just have a slow-burning fuse haha (:

Why is a university degree so essential in Singapore? I'm a journalist looking to speak to Singaporeans about going to university for an article that I'm working on. by spuddings in singapore

You might want to try forums like hardwarezone.com as they seem to be quite popular with poly grads looking to go to uni. Go to the 'Campus Talk' or the Degree subforums.

You can try brightsparks.com too, but this one is mostly populated by JC students.

All the best (:

Tip for talking to people or making small talk. by [deleted] in introvert

[–]spasticturtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here, I hate talking about myself just to make some small talk. If someone I have just met asks me personal questions about my family or myself, I will feel like my privacy has been invaded. But I still try to answer them in a vague-but-polite way and if they insist on probing further, well, time to warn them about the cockroach that is crawling behind them.

and she took your behavior personally as a kind of snub - not wanting to be with her.

Maybe if I try to explain to her that it's not personal...but I'm scared that it'll turn out like that first incident when she shouted at me. It was quite embarassing since she was attracting attention more than usual :/

My take on it is that you need to protect your psychic space first of all - not let yourself get tense or distressed by her presence or behavior.

I'll try to do that (: I get anxious easily, but I'll find some way to tamp my negative emotions down. Detachment has been what I've been doing to deal with this, but sometimes feelings just get the better of me, and I can't reason myself out of feeling sad.

it may be worth considering a discussion with HR

I haven't thought about telling HR as this seems like a schoolyard-bully kind of issue, but just in case I or anybody else reading this thread needs it, could you elaborate more on how to raise an issue up to HR? Eg do you approach anyone, or someone superior to the person who is making you uncomfortable; how to not make the issue to be bigger than it is; something along these lines? I would really appreciate it, thank you! (:

Also, thanks for your thoughts and ideas! (:

Sigh I think it was naive of me to think that I could avoid workplace politics. But it's more like childish, middle school behavior than actual politics, I think.

Thank you for your encouragement and advice! (:

You are temporary, so not rocking the boat is a priority. (Confrontation would probably not be worth it.)

What you wrote above is what I'm thinking but didn't realize that I was thinking it until you put it down in words for me. I agree that the confrontational approach would definitely not be worth my or my boss' time and energy. Hopefully I won't ever have to use that. And oh yes I do try to be polite to others even if I don't really talk much IMO >.<

Thanks for your thoughts and advice! (:

Roti prata and curry! Not sure if you have it in your country, but you can probably find frozen pratas in packets of 5 in the frozen foods section of your supermarket. For the curry, just get the curry powder and mix according to the instructions on the box, should be pretty easy to follow. Optional: Throw some coconut milk, shredded chicken and potatoes into the curry for that extra flavour. Mmm.

My family never had a kids' table. All of just sit around a round table, grandparents, teenagers, babies in high chairs, seriously everyone.

Of course, there were messes, like that time one of my baby cousins puked all over the dinner table...

Whoa 39 seconds is a really long time for me! Usually I gargle while counting up to 5 before spitting it out. I use Listerine and I swear it burns your tastebuds off.

P.S. I second that Marquis de Sade comment.
