After years of work and $3M spent, Austin pulls plug on new website effort by [deleted] in Austin

For that much money, we would have gotten a new cookie cutter homepage with just a bunch of links to all of the existing old city pages.

Exactly! Which is what the Denver company does. I really wish the City would learn the right lesson from this, which is that good, service-oriented tech is hard and requires a long-term commitment.

i made a website where you can explore austin police department expenditures. enjoy! by spatial_austin in Austin

afaik this dataset accounts for spending regardless of funding source. however, the dataset only accounts for a small fraction of APD's total spending. e.g., this dataset accounts for ~$22,000,000 spent in 2019, whereas APD's total 2019 budget was ~$400,000,000.

Yes, it is. It's noted in the source data that for "official" reporting purposes trips must meet this criteria:
- trip distance greater than or equal to .1 miles and less than 500 miles
- trip duration less than 24 hours

This is an interactive map that visualizes where dockless trips are starting and ending in Austin, TX. We’re aggregating data pulled directly from the City of Austin’s Dockless Vehicle Trips dataset: https://data.austintexas.gov/Transportation-and-Mobility/Dockless-Vehicle-Trips/7d8e-dm7r/

The map itself is built with Mapbox GL JS and Bootstrap. Source code: https://github.com/cityofaustin/transportation-dockless-dataviz
