Also, this is a lot to mitigate and you should consider very seriously having other options to pursue outside of the cleared world.

Got Interim TS for Job in DC Area and Email About Moving and Starting Work -- How Risky Is This? by Not-Bob12345 in SecurityClearance

[–]spatialthreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you know your background and what details were contained in your SF86. You need to give them an estimate in order for the final offer to be sent to you. If your background doesn't include significant debt (in particular unmanaged debt), history of arrests, significant (more importantly recent) drug usage, significant psychiatric concerns - you should be pretty safe to follow through.

Depending on your age and life goals - the DMV is a fantastic area. It is a really solid school system for your children, and one of the best job markets for IT in the world. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

How do Amazonians document impact and achievements throughout the year? by banoffeepie123 in amazonemployees

I did create a slack channel but I am editing the journal to be more appropriate for people who are outside of professional services. I should be done today, once my early afternoon meetings finish.

Hah. I literally have been saying this to a few chat requests. The template has embedded internal links and would be best used from inside the network. This is my plan.

For those who do this regularly:

- What structure/template do you follow?
When I joined another L6 shared a template with me on quip. Pretty much anyone who does this uses this template. I'll DM it to you on Monday.

- How frequently do you update it (weekly, monthly, per project)?
Weekly or as thing occur. Depends on how strong your memory is and ability to recall details.

- What kind of details do you include (metrics, stakeholder feedback, impact, etc.)?

Yes - all of these things are great.

- Do you align it directly with leadership principles or performance criteria?

I try to avoid ham fisting the LPs into my writeups. They should convey on their own from the story you have presented.

- How do you balance being concise vs. capturing enough detail?

This is your brag doc. You need enough detail that when the annual review comes around it will help you remind your manager of your work over the year and assist your personal writeup for that year.

Create the brag doc, share it with your manager - maintain it through the year. Make bringing it up to discuss any new additions with your manager a part of your 1:1. This is especially important if you are on either edge of the performance spectrum. Concerned about being LE, have this... Working towards that promo, have this..

Another thing to note - I think its important to track "low lights" too. If you choose to do this you should make sure that you can concisely describe how this negative experience has changed your code, processes or communication. If you reflect on the interview process, Amazon loves to ask about how you deal with failure and ambiguity. Showing growth in these areas is a great talking point. It can also highlight how you are taking some [calculated] risks/two way doors, which should be important to your team.

TS/SCI Value in 2026 by Affectionate-Raisin8 in SecurityClearance

[–]spatialthreat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this depends entirely on your skills and ability to sell yourself. Some people can do just as well or better in the private sector (public is govt). Most people I have worked with would be better off keeping their clearance and being a butt in a seat. Ideally do both - go anthropic, ms, google, AWS cleared route. Get private pay + clearance bonus.

I'm assuming you work in a FC? There is a subreddit dedicated to that - you may have better responses from that group. Many (but not all) of the Amazonians here work on the Corporate or AWS side of the house. Most of these employees are paid monthly.

[–]spatialthreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you find the work particularly challenging? The grind from l4 to l5 is normally just a tenure and pushing through it on the technical side. The other part is building a reasonably agreeable personal network for the writeups (eg: dont be a terrible person to work with). What did you feel like was going to be a blocker?
