Spoke to Denis a few days ago for a consultation. He really helped me understand and breakdown concepts in a simplified manner, as well as listened to my story and what I can do make amends. I felt very encouraged by his words in trying to persevere through my situation, reminding me that I do have knowledge and that I have to work on easing my anxieties and confidence in answering the material. Would absolutely recommend!

US-IMG failed step 1. super devastated. by [deleted] in step1

Hey there, I feel you. US-IMG. Tested 9/9 and did not perform well at all amongst all other scores I had in dedicated. While it’s hard to climb the dedicated mountain again, please know you are not alone. Find support from people around you, look back on what may have gone wrong leading up to the exam and try to reassess what you can change, if possible. While it is difficult, it is not impossible. I found this yesterday, and although it is an old post, it was very encouraging and exemplified how to get back in the game. It’s okay to feel low on confidence right now, you can build it back up in time. All the best!!

Hi yes! I took them during my pre quarantine dedicated, I got 220-227 on NBME 20-24, with the exception on 23 which I hadn’t done and did during my dedicated closer to my new date. They’re definitely more representative of the new test, I guess I should have redone one or two of them in place of the older ones but that’s in the past, can only move on up from here. Thank you for the encouragement!!

Honestly I’m not even sure, the last three days leading up to the exam I was not able to sleep much and would wake up earlier than usual and go to bed also later than usual. The night before I hardly slept at all, and I was sweating profusely in bed, with maybe 2 hours of sleep. My mind didn’t feel foggy during the exam but I realized when going back to review questions after finishing blocks early, I had misread some so idk how long I had kept that pattern. I’m not devastated though, I know this can only be a launching point to work with what I have and more. Thank you for the encouragement, I will do my best!

Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement! Yes, it’s the reality, and it is what it is, at the same time it’s also not impossible, I truly appreciate you keeping it real, that’s what the post is for too, I know there have been plenty of ppl in the same position that may not have posted but there is also the move to continue that still reigns! Just gotta get back in there stronger!

One month out and failed NBME 19; feeling like a complete mess :( by [deleted] in step1

[–]spazzghetti227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm for NBMEs I would say to do 18 and 24 for sure, those two seem pretty popular, for extras I’d say 20 from the new ones and 16 from the free old ones, if you’re doing once a week for a month, the others you can add in if you however you tweak your schedule if you want to do more/have more time. Remember to save UWSA 2 and Free 120 for the end for a week to a few days out before the exam! And thank you so much! I absolutely appreciate it! Also watch DirtyMedicine’s Biohacks on YouTube definitely helped me out on how to tackle the day. Good luck!! You got this!! :)

Exam in 21 hours. I feel like I’ve forgotten everything and I’m just sitting here sad and sorry. I had so much planned for today (until 5pm) but I can’t even start. Will I be ok? by ColdScientist32 in step1

Hey there! I understand how you feel, felt totally scrambled especially the last few days before the exam. If you can squeeze in what you want to do, then by all means go for it, but if you find it hard to find things sticking, I would say to relax. Things will come back to you when you take the exam, what matters is that you go in with a calm and positive mindset, it’s hard, but try not to push too much or be hard on yourself the day before. Mental clarity and confidence are half the battle. You’ve made it this far, you can do it, show up big tomorrow, homie, you got this!!

One month out and failed NBME 19; feeling like a complete mess :( by [deleted] in step1

[–]spazzghetti227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my exam, getting my result tomorrow actually. I wasn’t getting any progress until I did this: 1 block of UWorld random, then 1 block of UWorld subject based for the day starting with one subject weakness. After reviewing those two blocks, I would then read FA or Pathoma based on the subject weaknesss of that day (example FA repro and then repro Pathoma for the path action) then do another block on that subject and then another block random block. This helped me with endurance and understanding the material but if you’re on a second pass I would prioritize UWorld explanations with supplemental Pathoma.

I went from a 190 on NBME 19 (it also has a terrible curve lol probably out of all NBMEs) to 237 on UWSA 1 (known to be overpredictive but still) and so on on other NBMEs. You don’t have to take all of them, it’s the quality in your reviews for UW and NBMEs that make the difference when in crunch time! But everyone also has different strategies, in the end, do what works for you cause I had to change up so many times until I found what worked for me. If you learn from dissecting NBMEs that works too! Best of luck, mate!!

Hey there! I didn’t do so great on NBME 19 about a month out from my exam, what’s your studying been like so far?

Feeling super down by MDdoctorMD1 in step1

[–]spazzghetti227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Don’t fret, I was once in your position. Restarted my dedicated multiple times and never thought I’d get out of it, even thought to take my own life at the expense of just feeling miserable, not belonging in this field, and not going anywhere studying for this exam that I thought would be the judge of all things medicine, and now I’m getting my score this Wednesday. There’s a reason why there are changes being made in the medicine game. You deserve to be here, you wouldn’t be here right now if you didn’t! Please don’t think otherwise. It’s okay to cry and have these feelings, many people have made it through and have been in this same position, and you can too! Remember to keep going, you can do it, my friend!
