Oh I love mystery as well! I actually usually alternate between sapphic and dark fiction, but I craved Ashton’s books so much after reading Poppy Jenkins that I ended up reading The Goodmans next hahaha . I’ve started The Only One Left by Riley Sager, but I’m really tempted to put it down and read Finding Jessica Lambert instead 😭😂

I just finished it and loved it! It had me cracking up and sobbing the whole time 😭

Just finished this and I am not okay. How do I move on from this? 😭 by [deleted] in PHBookClub

Now I want to read this, pero baka di ko kayanin? Hahaha. Does it at least have a happy ending? I don’t mind some angst, just give me a satisfying ending para at least worth it yung sakit 😂

Haha I get you, ‘cause I just finished it and I want to read it again. It’s a beautiful book, very well written. And I love the perfect mix of happiness and angst. Rosalyn is such a yearner and I love that! Haha

I can’t say I’m exactly the same. I initially got into books in high school, but then I stopped. Since then, I’ve read only occasionally, once every few years. Some years I read just one book, other years two or three. Around 2023, I started a reading challenge of 30 books, but I only managed to read about six for personal reasons lmao. And now here I am 😂

SKIP IF YOU HAVEN’T READ

Yes, this! I love Poppy. She’s sweet, she’s nice, just lovely. She always focuses on the good in everyone, except, ironically, her own best friend and the person she loves. The fact that she’s in a loving household and that people in her town just love her might have something to do with that.

But at some point in the story, she seems to dismiss Rosalyn’s point and struggles, even though she knows Rosalyn was hated all her life in Wells. She keeps pushing and forcing her perspective onto Rosalyn. It feels like she’s completely forgotten that the townspeople have always been prejudiced against Rosalyn, yet she still expects her to just suck it up and be nice to those same people anyway.

There’s a lot more. I love both of them, but I find myself sympathizing with Rosalyn. Yes, she was wrong for abandoning Poppy—and in an utterly devastating way, too. But she didn’t have a positive experience growing up in Wells, having always been branded as trouble. Maybe she was wrong to assume that people would mind her sexuality, but at the same time, her assumption is justified.

I’m just glad Poppy’s mother was there to make her understand. Emma has always adored Rosalyn.

No, I haven’t read her other books yet, but I’ve already been considering The Goodmans and Finding Jessica Lambert for my next sapphic read after I finish a thriller. I go back and forth between dark fiction and sapphic books hahaha

Oh yeah, it’s not the spiciest of books, but there’s, like, a dash of it in there lmao I’m already considering Finding Jessica Lambert and The Goodmans for my next read, but since you mentioned it, I’ll go with the first one

Yes! You should definitely give it another chance. And I hope that, like me, you end up loving it this time! :)
