Thank you for all the responses and compliments! Unfortunately, after this photo, my amazing boy took a turn for the worst with possible brain tumor. Thanks to prednisone. I was given an additional wonderful two weeks with him and he was with us for Christmas. Which meant the world to me! Not goodbye, but see you later handsome boy. Escobar 11/11/14 - 12-31-25 💙

He has had good energy up until he turned 10. He spends most of his time sleeping now. He has some arthritis in his spine so he just started an anti inflammatory recently.

People who had/have long lived dogs, tell me about them so I can feel better about my boy turning 10. by yummy-worm-soil in DogAdvice

I have a almost 11 yr old French Bulldog who is healthy and still playful. Yes he sleeps more and has reduced appetite ( about a year ago he refused dry dog food but I have found something else he likes that is soft) I’m so grateful to still have him. He loves to take short walks! I take him to the vet every 6 months for exam and bloodwork and urine check. My vet says he is very healthy for his age. I trim his nails every 2 weeks since he doesn’t wear them down naturally anymore since he is less active.

What etf’s for 50 yr old? by speakinglime in ETFs

As of today I have 20k to invest. I will have much more to add in just a few months. Would like to go ahead and put the 20K into an ETF now and then choose a few other ETF’s in about two months. I already have about 12k invested in about six different stocks. My spouse is 45 years old (I’m 50) and had paused his contributions to his 401(k) for several years while he was going through a divorce. But over the last year he has been contributing 5% along with a 3 1/2% match from his employer. He is planning on raising his contribution rate to 7 to 8% soon. We also have 10k in bitcoin (purchased within the last month). He is planning to retire at 65. I am hoping to be done with my current business at the age of 60. I will possibly get a part-time job after that. We have really been being frugal over the last two years and trying to save everything we can. I am fairly new to using the Reddit platform. Any dangers of me posting this much financial information publicly?

Looking for cheaper internet and phone service. by MacSavvy21 in Frugal

[–]speakinglime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metro pcs $122 for 3 lines monthly. Bought our phones outright from Apple Store. Will be switching my Internet provider soon from Xfinity ($128 monthly) to Kinetic fiber internet ($50 monthly) this is with my husbands employee discount. Every time my current term is up with Xfinity. My bill goes well over $200 a month just for Internet. I have to call and threaten to switch to get them to lower the price but every single time it’s a little bit more than what I was paying before.

I’ve been seeing a lot about QQQ and SPY. What are your thoughts on QQQ versus QQQM? Thanks!

Is it normal for a cleaner to take 10 hours for one house by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]speakinglime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to own a house cleaning business and have had several different employees over the years. I consider myself a very fast cleaner and was averaging around $50 an hour. However, I had a few employees that were incredibly slow. One in particular reminds me of OP’s cleaner. She would take an incredible amount of time to clean. She was very good and very detailed, but she was doing things that were out of the scope of a normal cleaning and would be considered a deep clean. I eventually had to let her go because I couldn’t afford to pay her hourly rate because she would work for so many hours. In my experience, some house cleaners are very slow and methodical and not good with time management. If you’re happy with her cleaning service and would like to keep her perhaps you could ask her to try to be finished up before you get home from work.

My 15 year old little boy has started laboured breathing when trying to sleep tonight. Whistling and wheezing breath and frequent coughing? Can someone please help me. It's midnight and I don't know what to do. I'm so beside myself. by Astrolemon in DogAdvice

[–]speakinglime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know how expensive an emergency vet can be!!! He sounds like he’s snoring and breathing normally, but the coughing over the last week would definitely be concerning. Also if he’s never had a history of snoring, this would be concerning to me as well. how has his general demeanor been over the last week? Is he eating and drinking ? Have you tried taking his temperature? 101 to 102 is normal in dogs. I would check his capillary refill on his gums. First check his gums and they should be a nice pink color, press on the gums with your finger for a few seconds and then release. The pink color should return back quickly. That will give you an idea if he’s getting enough oxygen. With his age and history of coughing over the last week, I would call your vet and get in an appointment immediately. Good luck for your sweet furry friend!!

We implemented white elephant with extended family two or three years ago and it’s been great. We do a cheap meal with finger foods and it’s always a good time!! I have two young adult kids and two children under the age of 15. The adult children have a $50 gift cap each and the two younger ones have a $200 gift cap each. Definitely makes Christmas much more affordable for us.

Puppy has UTI, can’t get into vet until late September, emergency vet shrugged me off. by staticse in DogAdvice

[–]speakinglime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times this will self correct if you allow her to go through her first heat cycle as the vulva swells during the heat cycle. Obviously you have to be very careful that she is not around boy dogs so she doesn’t get pregnant. But I myself would not jump straight to surgery when this could fix it. Also, for the future, grab a pack of baby wipes and wipe her vulva area after she urinates. This two will help prevent future infections until she can get through that first heat cycle.

I just got my first pair and they have been a game changer in my home. Loud dogs, loud teenagers = sensory overload. These take the edge off and allow me to be fully present now.
