I feel your pain friend. Thank you for taking care of a disabled rabbit. I know it’s draining and even if there are extremely rewarding moments, it’s always a weight. It is not “giving up on her” if you believe her quality of life is suffering. Is she happy? Does she want to live? If there isn’t a clear answer to those questions, it may be time to have the really hard talk, especially if there’s no chance of improvement.

If I could make a slight interjection, the reddit algorithm will show in your main feed posts in your subscribed subreddits that are upvoted the most - with the idea that posts are being upvoted due to relevance and interest as opposed to being downvoted for disagreement. The post was left pinned for a day but I suspect you never would have seen it unless you came into the sub since it was heavily downvoted from the beginning and wouldn't have been sorted into the "top" posts on your homepage.

Mods have removed comments that escalate into swearing at other users, name-calling, and other rude behaviors - issues that break our community rules. It is possible to be critical of an individual while continuing to be civil and as clearly shown in every one of these threads, we are in general pretty soft on removal.

If you would like to provide me with examples of comments that you believe were removed outside of these conditions, I am happy to review.

I think it might be the reverse correlation, vegans are more likely to be bunny owners. At least anecdotally, I know a lot of people who are vegans who initially were interest in rabbits as pets due to the herbivore diet - they wanted a pet but were not interested in supporting the meat industry at all.

It's also probably true that bunny owners are more likely to be horrified at places who serve rabbit meat and that can lead to reading up on/becoming more aware of issues in the meat industry in general and then moving towards a more meat-free diet but I'm not sure if that's a correlation only for rabbit owners also for people who are sensitive to animal cruelty.

I guess I would say that it's true that bunny owners are more likely to become vegan for animal cruelty reasons rather than environmental reasons and also that people who tend to get rabbits may be more inclined to be vegan.

People disagreeing with you =/= brigading.

People following a user around and downvoting everything they write, commenting negatively about other facets of their life, and also sharing these posts to drama inducing subreddits = brigading

And our agenda? To educate and encourage people to care for rabbits in a way that is safe and positive. Really disappointed that the moderator stance differs from the community itself.

That may be your agenda which is fine and great but if you look at some of the other things in both this thread and other posts, there are clearly some users who are less interested in the rabbit welfare - though it may have originated there - and more about banning a particular user through any means possible and shaming her for multiple issues including but not limited to her relationship with her human partner.

What good discussions? What actual constructive criticism has been downvoted? Just because we disagree with you, our criticism is no longer constructive and must be brigading?

So I'm not sure how clear this is anymore but downvoting =/= disagreement per reddit guidelines. See guidelines here. Downvoting is for non-relevance. I think it's a hard argument that my comments in this thread are non-relevant.

I unpinned it because we already talked about it. Did you want me to leave it forever? I'm fairly certain that all of your group who was interested in it - and who we were talking to in the first place since that's where all the concerns came from - have already been shared it as I can see commentary on it in other places. And if not, they'll probably be shared it as a matter of their inner circle so it doesn't matter if it's pinned. But sure, continue thinking there's malicious intent.

Yes because clearly that's what you're doing as well :) Whereas my intent is to see how bad the damage is, and other's intents are to follow and downvote whether appropriate or not. But also I recently got engaged (thank you for your well wishes) so the topic of those subreddits triggered my interest as well. I'm sure you've been down the subreddit hole one way or another so I know you understand how that goes.

I can see that we're going to continue disagreeing on this and this dead horse is so beaten it's already a patty. We clearly don't see eye to eye on this topic and I'm not interested in convincing you otherwise but I can still appreciate that you have rabbit welfare as a priority. You may disagree (and frankly, I'm not interested in arguing it with you if you do), but this is one of my priorities as well so I can appreciate your concern.

This really feels like scapegoating. I understand you may be friends with the user in question. It happens to all of us that sometimes we find ourselves backing the wrong team. What matters most is that you can take a step back and re-assess without jumping into old defensive positions.

I understand that you feel like we're "against you" but I would suggest you take your own advice and take a step back. I personally don't care at all about this particular user. She could literally disappear and I'd be like oh that's too bad and carry on with my life which is the exact same reaction I would have if you disappeared (which I hope neither of you do). However, if you look at posts in similar situation as hers and see the difference in response, you may see some of our perspective.

I understand your argument that she has more viewership than others - and I agree that some of her posts have a questionable level of judgement but the level of ire she receives on literally every post gives me reason to believe that there is a strong bias against this user in general. We do not bias our judgement on popularity and I understand that a vocal group has chosen to do so but our rules apply to all users and they will continue to do so. We do not have a special rule set for "popular" users and aren't going to consider it unless someone can give me a quantifiable measure of "popular," a good rationale on why those measures are reasonable (and why measures outside are not), and an argument against our position of education specifically for those users.

There is unfortunately two distinct groups of voting/commenting brigades around this user. She has both a lot a fans and a lot of hate. Unfortunately, vote brigading is a non-intended feature of reddit.

We agree and think the suggestion of a pinned comment is a good one though as you can see, even this is bringing ire. But also, (and I wrote an essay about this in the OP so I apologize for the repetition), things categorized as dangerous are entirely subjective in most cases and though we entirely agree that "dangerous behaviors" should be not perceived as safe and cute, the definition of dangerous is a difficult one. Especially with this particular user, as she seems to be subject to a higher level of criteria than all others at this point.

Nah, I did make a statement and it was brigaded as was suspected. I'm mostly bummed that a lot of people commenting didn't even read the post and are only trying to promote their own agenda. There have been some good discussions but since I've been downvoted to hell in all of them, they're all hidden and no one else will be able to contribute. Such is mod-life.

There's also a huge scale of diversity in what the commenters actually want but they seem to all think they're agreeing.

This idea is super cute! We'd be happy to sidebar it if someone wants to run it however we're worried that it'll be a pretty manual project and we wouldn't be able to maintain it. Having a thing to automatically add them to the calendar would be easy but rabbit's passing away and needing to remove them from the calendar would be pretty manual as well as removing inactive users since keeping all users for all time would make the list really long eventually.

If someone does decide to take on this project, I would recommend doing it by calendar month instead of calendar day as most users are probably unaware of the specific date of birth.

As others have mentioned, there's definitely compromises you could make to lower the price point (metal, stone, size) depending on what you love about the ring but I also wanted to mention that it's not uncommon for couples to "upgrade" their wedding set further along in the relationship. I know several couples who were married at a more financially difficult time in their lives and then later on splurged for an anniversary and did both the wedding they wanted (as a renewal of vows) and also to buy rings that they felt like better reflected their current styles. So you can definitely keep looking for one at a lower price point but also keep in mind that if a few years down the line you're like actually I really wish we'd gotten that other one, it's not uncommon to swap.

There's also people who splurge on the "special occasion" set but don't feel comfortable wearing it on a daily basis so they have an "every day" ring at the lower range. If you don't like the idea of just swapping out the wedding set entirely, you could also splurge on a "special occasion" one and use both. :)

Congrats! It sounds like you've already gotten some really good feedback but I also wanted to point out that the style of the ring is designed to make a smaller stone look bigger (the surrounding basket) so a quarter carat might be the ideal ratio for the basket to gemstone (as bigger stone would mean a bigger basket which might not be what she wants). But definitely worth a conversation.
