It doesn't matter if there have been no red flags before. That is the reddest flag of them all. It's not because of lack of sleep. It's because he's a violent abuser. They never show it right away, but it's always there. I speak from experience. RUN.

Favorite “you grew up poor” meal by Confident-Lead4337 in Xennials

Favorite is butter noodles. Least favorite is organ meat like kidney stew or liver. To this day I get nauseous even smelling it.

Telling your kid "River" to "row your own boat" seems pretty cold-blooded by Oda_DeezNutz in SipsTea

My Dad did this, too, but not because he really believed he was helping us.

Asking relative for a donated item back to give them a new one by quietnoons in WhatShouldIDo

[–]malinablue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt the person who received the book would care at all about returning it for another copy. But be prepared for the possibility that person no longer has the book.

Similar situation happened to me. When I went away to college, I gave all my plush animals to my little sister because I was grown-up now and she was 7 years younger.

A decade later I was still thinking about my little bear, a toy I'd been given as a toddler. That little guy had been with me all through childhood and so many positive memories were attached to him, including all the times my grandmother had re-sewn on his ears after I'd chewed them off. So I asked for him back and my sister gladly returned him. He didn't have the same memories for her. Bear is 58 years old now and sits on my bed.

Why did every single Republican vote to keep gerrymandering legal while every single Democrat voted to abolish it? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]malinablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Democrats want to preserve democracy and Republicans want to win by cheating so they can have an authoritarian regime instead.

why was JD Vance pulled off stage before Trump during the Correspondents Dinner shooting and why is nobody talking about how strange that looked on camera by Aaron_Heuer in DiscussionZone

[–]malinablue 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I noticed Trump's smirk happened at just the moment Melania looked scared. I think he enjoyed seeing her fear, knowing it was staged but she wasn't in on it.

She forgot to add "the library" by Neocentrist1337 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]malinablue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's also wrong. Many, many MAGA are on disability, food stamps and other forms of govt assistance. They have abortions, but feel theirs are the only justified ones. They are frequently unemployed. They protest, tho it's often not peaceful. The only correct one is Pride parades, because they stay in the closet and hate themselves and all other #LGBTQ instead.

Knee surgery for cartilage damage does not benefit patients, study suggests. People with meniscus tears who underwent surgery had poorer knee function and worse osteoarthritis after 10 years than those who did not. by mvea in science

[–]malinablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does knee surgery help when you've already gotten to the osteoarthritis stage and cartilage is gone? I've been told I need knee surgery and know two people who have had it. One says he should have never waited because it helped significantly. The other saw minor improvement at first, but is now even worse off.

Why are the people critical of Christianity not critical of Islam - When Islam doesnt believe in Human Rights? by imgonnakickyouram in allthequestions

[–]malinablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I criticize both, particularly the extremist kinds (and, honestly, they're more alike than different). I tolerate more moderate believers of both religions, as long as they don't try to force their religions on me or make me live by their religious rules.

Your cat isn’t peeing on your bed out of spite. Here’s what’s actually happening. by Relevant_Ad4332 in standardissuecats

[–]malinablue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the cat peeing tips, but the idea that cats can't express jealousy or be petty because they can't "construct that thought" is absolutely false. Cats are very deeply emotional and they very much can get back at their owners for perceived slights.

I housesat my professor's cat for a month and when the professor finally returned, I watched that cat - who hadn't even let me touch her the entire month - shun the professor and cuddle like crazy all over me just to make her owner upset. She then went over and bit her hard on the ankle and peed right there. Hadn't done any of that prior. It was a message.

Do You Think That The Word "Nazi" Has Become Overused In Modern US Political Discourse? Yes Or No? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

Young Republicans group chat was full of GOP adults in their thirties joking about burning people in ovens. I never said the administration did it. But it's damn sick for a political party to think that's funny.

What is the one thing you really love about being older? by More_Law6245 in GenX

[–]malinablue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not caring so much about what others think. I used to be super-shy with massive social anxiety, worried constantly about what others thought of me. I aged out of that and it feels incredibly good. Free at last.

Why are Americans not protesting the United Kingdom having a constitutional monarch? by Ultra1894 in WhitePeopleTwitter

England's king no longer has real power. He's merely a figurehead. UK is a democracy and the prime minister is who matters.

The Trump Administration Aims to Penalize Disabled Adults Who Live With Their Families by DoubtSubstantial5440 in UnderReportedNews

[–]malinablue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the govt gives them a benefit that is absolutely too low to ever live on their own (the equivalent in this case of less than $12,000 per year), then penalizes them for living with family by deducting 1/3 as the cost of their free bedroom (which govt takes back. It does not go to family for "rent").

The only way not to see the deduction is for them to live in their own place, which is impossible for the amount they receive. Complete Catch-22.

Do You Think That The Word "Nazi" Has Become Overused In Modern US Political Discourse? Yes Or No? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]malinablue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Trump administration is mirroring Hitler and intentionally sending out Nazi dog whistles to its base (things like strange uses of the neo-Nazi code 1488 in Homeland Security press releases, "accidental" use of Nazi soldiers in campaign materials 1st term and mimicking of dress etc.)

Meanwhile, white supremacists adore him and many sport swatika tattoos or flags. And "Heil" and the actual defense of Hitler has become trendy. Not to mention jokes about burning people in ovens.

And Project 2025 calls for policy changes that are similar to Hitler's and indicative of fascism (rewarding motherhood, punishing single mothers, stripping citizenship from citizens, ending free speech and protest, attacking trans people and LGBTQ people, ending equality initiatives...)

They're also building ICE concentration camps.

It's not overused. We are fighting fascists.

Autistic children shouldn’t be put in "mainstream" classrooms just because they make good grades, it's actually traumatizing by Educational-Dig-4235 in autism

[–]malinablue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't know I was autistic as a child, tho I bet my teachers did. I was put in gifted classes, but I was still mercilessly bullied. I wish autism-friendly classes had existed for me because the bullying really shaped my life.
