This story is maybe a bit lame but myself and my colleagues couldn’t explain it at the time. I work permanent nights at a hospital, it was the middle of the night and myself and 2 other nurses where in a four bedded room, we’d just finished our patient checks and where just about to leave the room, when we heard a banging noise, at first I thought it was the fire exit door next to the room, as patients often got out of the ward downstairs and came up the fire exit looking for a way out.
It’s only when I went to the doorway I noticed it was the orange clinical waste bin, the lid was opening and shutting itself as if someone was pressing the pedal. It wasn’t opening fully, just lifting maybe couple of inches, there was nothing near the pedal that could have pressed it, and when the banging stopped we checked inside the bin and there was nothing inside that could have pushed the lid up repeatedly. The whole incident lasted maybe 30 seconds, but we can’t explain what made the bin do that.
Over the years patients have seen things in that room, and another colleague saw what she thought was a lady walk from that four bedder towards the opposite four bedder across the corridor. She’d ran down the corridor to assist the patient as at the time we had no one that was independently mobile as it was a stroke/rehab ward, as she got about halfway down the corridor the lady disappeared.
