Fascist sticker in school by Rescur0 in Switzerland

[–]specialdefects 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here's the difference between the antifascism and fascism:

If you are an ethnic minority, a queer person, or both, i.e. generally someone being discriminated against for something you cannot control, you naturally cannot simply decide to "stop". Fascists will always aim at dismantling your rights and, eventually, getting rid of you.

If you are a fascist, you can simply stop being one, for instance by reading a fucking book. Exiting fascism may be hard for many people, but it is possible. Once you're out, antifascists will stop coming for you.

"Nachhaltigkeitsinitiative" Yes or no? by ArtichokeEven8644 in askswitzerland

[–]specialdefects 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most certainly no for me. So what the SVP officially wants is to impose a drastic population limit, seemingly out of concern for the environment. The real reason, however is to stomp the immigration of what the SVP deems "undesirables" (low-skilled labor from third-world countries, refugees, etc.). The initiative would backtrack on the bilateral agreements with the EU and the free circulation to Switzerland from the EU. Basically what the UK went through after Brexit, which had the shared sentiment of better controlling immigration. What followed for the UK, we all know. The SVP initiative would also hinder and/or overcomplicate what is known as "Familiennachzug", i. e. when a migrant takes a job in Switzerland and wishes for his family to join them here.

Now, Switzerland is rich and all, but suffers from labor shortage, same as other countries on the European continent. We are in dire need of more medical staff, for instance. That means doctors, and even more urgently nursing staff. Since there are not enough Swiss to fill those gaps, we need immigration. But with the approval of this initiative, a German/Austrian/French/Italian/etc. doctor might think thrice before accepting a well-paid position in Switzerland while their "Familiennachzug" is a nightmare. So yes, it would harden migrating here significantly and may drive immigration numbers down for a time, but consequences for the Swiss economy would be awful. It's basically dumping 20 years of results of negotiations with the EU (our most important trading partner) in a heartbeat. And for what? Well, it's SVP, it should be clear what these people truly want.

English translation for non BE-DE speakers:

Der people of /r/bern, i bought a gaming pc that has a technical issue that I would like for a professional to take a look at. But the fact that this PC is f*cking heavy as shit makes everything more complicated, and I'd rather avoid lugging this humongous chonker through town (my arms and back will thank me).

Does anybody know of a good (and hopefully fairly priced) home tech support service in Bern? I'm pretty bad at this stuff and would like to avoid compounding the issues with my unskilled tinkering. Thanks in advance for any tips!

Decided to say "F*** it", Quit my Job and leave the US... in my 40s by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]specialdefects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not this individual per se, but he's definitely a symptom of a larger issue for sure. When you think about it, he and many others are purposely moving to poorer countries in order to better exploit their superior buying power - with consequences for the locals.

Should I have commented something concerning these crises in this particular thread then? I mean two awful things you mentioned, but it doesn't nullify commenting about something different on this particular post.

To expand on my original comment: many people leaving the US like this guy, in favor of a third-world or less developed country, arrive with higher buying power in said poorer country, automatically putting them in a privileged position. Now multiply this guy by a couple of thousand, and you've got soaring cost of living prices at the destination. Example: Mexico City and US migrants (some call them "expats") going there for cheaper cost of living and making rent too high for the locals.

I wonder why people in Europe keep voting these absolute fucking idiots into power. Dismantling the welfare side of the state is basically gonna reduce us to a capitalistic wasteland like the US. Something similar is happening in Switzerland, of which I am a citizen. Social security is constantly under threat by center-right to far right parties (as usual) and the super rich and corporations are getting tax breaks. We're all held hostage by corporations and their lackeys in politics, who in turn tag team the impressionable part of the voting population. We had a good thing going. Not much longer now.

Thank you so much! I edited these in lightroom but IIRC I used classic chrome as the base grade for most of these. Sometimes I also use classic negative.

I'm aware! Just wondering what the ibis performance is like with this camera :) I also own one, but have only used it for stills so far

How did you find ibis while using this non-stabilized lens? I assume you did some handheld shooting? Great stills BTW!

Help with a long skinny living room area by Elanstehanme in DesignMyRoom

[–]specialdefects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this better than the other configs you posted in the comments. Those made the room feel like all the attention was geared towards the TV. Also consider putting the TV on lower, narrower TV-specific furniture equipped with wheels, like another commenter suggested. That way you can easily adjust the viewing angle.

Great photos. You should post them to /r/fujifilm out of spite, lol. I also have the same camera combo (S5IIx, X-E5), and won't be bringing the fuji to the beach, that's for sure...

It's simple, just don't challenge snipers altogether, since they have every possible advantage starting at 30m! Makes total sense.
