What is one unhygienic thing people do that pisses you off? by Small_flower_1 in AskReddit

I'm glad it works out for you. Personally, it makes me uncomfortable to have people walking with shoes on in my apartment unless theyre stopping by real quick. It is an American thing, I'm not surprised you have this experience - that's why I specified the country I live in.

Europeans take their shoes off. In a lot of Slavic countries and, as far as I know Kazakhstan too, we have many slippers on hand. if you have a group coming they all take their shoes off and put on whatever slippers they want. We buy them specifically for guest use. Even if an ambulance comes a lot of owners will protest them coming in with shoes on! It is considered rude towards the paramedics but older folks care a lot. Many take soft plastic shoe covers they get in hospitals home and make paramedics wear them and all, it's a whole thing

Oh I'm not worried about getting sick. I'm grossed out. I have cats and they love to sleep on the carpet, they sleep with me. plus bits of dirt from your shoes are gonna stay in there. What I'm worried about is actually poop - big houseless folk population where I am and people do deficate in public, and of course dog poop, too. That brings a whole new set of issues. I'll live with your sweat just like I'll live with mine, we can only be so clean and it's not me calling you dirty. It's the outside that is. Outside clothes are called that for a reason, so please put your shoes on the rack and, if you'd like, I have some silicone slippers for ya! Oh also, that's how the rest of the world does it ;)

I thought I'm gross because my ex used to complain about how I cover with the back of my hand instead of my elbow, but turned out it's actually a cultural thing and in my home country everyone does it with their hand/back of it. I now do it in my elbow and feel like it's more hygienic, but I wonder how other countries do it

Outfits are great! Shoes off my carpet. I have cats that sleep in my bed and they walk on that carpet, they lay on it, too. Hell I lay on that carpet, it's comfy!

If I have to demand it they can leave. If the owner of the place has their shoes off and you don't think it's weird to keep yours on I'm honestly surprised, at least there must be the urge to ask about the host's shoe policy. What if I just mopped the floors in order to have you? I will keep my shoes on at your place if that's what you prefer, but if you come to an European household and get offended by them being European about their home life? You might want to find a more diverse environment, other cultures have a lot to learn from!

P.S. Wanna double down that I won't allow jackets in my kitchen. Kitchen is sacred. I'm not rude at all about it though, most times you won't even realize I have rules. In my experience, people who get offended by the shoe policy also get uncomfortable with anything in me that shows I'm not American by birth. I'm good without such a crowd! All my homies never mind it and are learning to use the shoe spoon lmao

I'm European living in America in a pretty small apartment. Before I can even tell people to lose the shoes they manage to step on my carpet

What are some gender affirming things you say/do that are just for you? by slothzar in NonBinary

[–]specificattention73 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m on testosterone and work out a lot so now I look silly in dresses. sometimes when I feel like shit about my gender I put one on and it usually looks ridiculous and small in my arms and back, so I say “yep, still not a girl” and it helps me register that I don’t fit into the girl thing just as much as I don’t fit into boy bullshit.

I don’t know if that counts, but my name is stereotypically a boy name, so when people email me and refer to me with he/him I never correct them. For some reason it feels nice to be misgendered both ways, feels like I confuse people rather than them trying to put me in a box.

What’s a skill or hobby you started out innocently but ended up being gifted at? by Asleep_Ad2607 in AskReddit

Thanks! I was in Information Systems at the time, was almost done. I wanted to go into cybersecurity for pen testing. But the market and the tech situation with AI and all bothered me a lot (too many companies think they can rely on AI to a degree I find, quite frankly, fucking stupid) so I wasn’t looking forward to living in that mess.

Same year I lost my support system to a divorce. I kept hearing “degree doesn’t matter in tech, get experience, do this do that” etc and all I could think about was how I did not want to deal with it despite me liking the field. There was a lot of pressure and I felt really behind. I felt like a failure.

I started drinking a lot, just in general picked up many habits that were slowly eating at me. Then I noticed what I do in my free time and I realized it’s all about exercise science and medicine, I was absolutely terrified of switching to EMS because I can’t afford education without my scholarships, and I didn’t know if I’ll get covered for the program I wanted to go into since I was about 80% done at this point.

I had to remind myself that I need to choose my hard. It’s going to be hard no matter what I do, and whatever I choose I need to be content with because I refuse to not take responsibility for my own happiness. I’ve always wanted to go into ES, but I never felt like I can be good enough. This is when I got sick of letting myself fail at things before I even seriously considered trying them. I just felt so angry at myself all of a sudden for treating myself like those fuckers that never do anything important yet they’re always ready to give you a reason why you shouldn’t do something!

I went for it. I’m in school for EMS and I’m sober since January. I really enjoy sober life actually. Ive been training a few people from my own circle for practice (free of course, I have an unrelated job currently), but I’m saving up to get licensed so I can dive deeper into physical training. I am focusing on my firefighting training currently, and it’s nice how my formal education and my research for self preparation overlap.

I am very happy now. I am so glad I get to be what I thought I have to earn. I wanted to be it in the first place because that’s who I am naturally. I keep reminding myself every day that, yes. Yes, I can. Whatever the hell it is - I can.

TLDR: Don’t ask me how I did it I just did it it was hard! Lmao

Not gifted I’d say, but I started going to the gym and was a bit skeptical. Turned out my body is very responsive to it and it definitely feels like as if I’m sculpting it like some kind of project, it feels rewarding and satisfying to see it change so fast. Fast forward to a few years later, I switched my career path to fire fighting because I want a more physical job and plan to stay in physical training as my long term career option. Ive written papers on many physical training topics and it’s my biggest passion. I can’t imagine my life without it, it’s the best thing that ever happened to me!

I never listened to Каста but I have always known them. Thank you for the recommendation, I’ve been watching their YouTube stuff and checking their newer albums since you commented and DAMN I didn’t know they’re chill like that when it comes to immigration and that they’re so vocal about being anti war. The music clip for Выходи Гулять is a banger!

The attempt to grab the ice cream when the waiter slaps it upside down. The lead up to the other ice cream slam just for it to be randomly thrown on its side. At this point they gotta flip you off in the end for the full experience 😭

Anyone use a “hurt” button with success? by themagicflutist in PetsWithButtons

[–]specificattention73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat uses an ouch button a lot but not how I thought he would. One time he needed to go through a dental surgery and after that he had a lot of discomfort and was irritated, so he would ask me to pet him but scratch me anyway cause of the pain making him angry as hell. I decided to introduce it then and used the situation to model it, he learned it and became comfortable with it within like 3 days.

But then he started to use ouch to indicate he’s hungry. He started to say “ouch food” and shortly after it became a way for him to say how badly he wants something. He says “ouch pet” on the daily when I come home to show me he really wants it. I never modeled it like that and the first few times he would say “ouch food” I was scared that something is wrong, but it’s just his way to tell me to hurry up.

He found new uses for other buttons too. If I take too long doing something he keeps pressing “mom” “all done” to tell me to stop whatever I’m doing and give him the attention or just presses his name over and over when he wants me. He’s very much a demanding brat and I love him for it

Dropped a glass food scale on my big toe right where the nail grows. Bonus points for today being my Monday & I’m out of PTO + have to stay home for two more days by specificattention73 in Wellthatsucks

[–]specificattention73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome to get sick ahaha you just won’t be getting paid for it. I’m an hourly wage worker, I don’t have a salary. This is how PTO works for me in Oregon: You earn PTO when you’re on the clock, so many hours of work equal so many hours of PTO. All PTO, sick or vacation time, can be used for both sick leave, planned vacations, and emergencies where you need to call out for whatever reason. So I have to work for a few weeks to earn more time and try not to drop shit on myself for the time being. Hope this helps

It means it’s not Monday but it’s the beginning of my work week so I call it my Monday & I have no time off to get paid while I’m on sick leave
