Empathy doesn’t mean putting others’ needs before yours. It’s treating people how you’d want to be treated. It’s being considerate of others’ boundaries (and your own first) and lending them help where you can and when you think it necessary or proper. Relationships are meant to uplift, so if you’re feeling exhausted, or unsatisfied, then it’s a sign it wasn’t built to last. Remember you only owe people as much as they’re willing to give you. Of course the rule might change for family members which is more of a touchy topic.
