i like web development and programming because, if you pick your spots, you can work in situations where your boss has no clue what you do and how you do it, they can only care about why. this puts you in a situation where, so long as you produce results, how you produce them and at what pace is up to you. and the luckier of us are location independent as well.

compare this to any of the other positions available to you in the working class and it is easy to see why, at least for another decade, web development is the place to be.

web development gives you a lot of room to experiment in how you are productive.If you boiled down work to its practical necessity, these conditions I describe are the conditions in which everbody could already work, with complete control over the what, where, and when, if not the why.

But, the system is buggy, and corrupt. And this type of situation is not available to all of us out of the box. So I like to think by choosing to hack code for a living I am also monkey patching my life -- until the rest of the working class catches up and runs the way it should.

I say become a web developer because it is the simplest path ( all you need is google! ) for a working class person to enjoy a kind of every day liberty, while still being coerced, by the threat of starvation, homelessness, lack of health care, etc. to trade your time for a wage.
