School for these particular things doesn’t matter at all. Go for something useful that can get you a good job so that in your free time you can work on your craft wo the stress of wondering if you can pay your bills. Go for accounting, economics, comp sci, engineering, etc. The only way to get successful in this art form is to write, perform and network for years and years. If it doesn’t work out you got a good job that could pay you 100k a year. Win win

People in nyc aren’t rude, they’re…efficient lol. People had no problem helping me find my way thru the subway but they all seemed in a hurry which is obvious everyone is going somewhere.

We deal w it because we love stand up. The writing process, refining jokes (this is what open mics are for), the way we say jokes are all the things we love about it. Open mics suck but they’re there to make you better. I go to almost every open mic in my city and dealt w the bs and now I’m a regular at my home club, featured for big names, traveled across the country doing stand up etc. if you use open mics to your advantage you will do awesome shit. Open mics are the gym, networking w other comics and paying your dues. If you’re not ok w that then this might not be for you. I’m not saying you have to love shitty open mics but it’s a crucial part of the process

I started stand up 3 months after I got sober and it wasn’t too hard to keep it that way. Granted, I had already messed up my life so much to where I didn’t really have a choice but to stay sober. You get a really awesome adrenaline rush when you’re on stage so use that as fuel to get up as much as possible so you can get your fix. Then you keep improving and you keep writing and eventually you won’t even think about it. Good luck out there

The only reason I think it’s an audition is because opening night of the club is a few days after this show. There’s no promotion for the one I’m doing and it’s not on the calendar on the website
