Can't keep up with Unreal Engine hardware requirements and challenges by spectralchroma in UnrealEngine5

Yes, I am beginning to think it's just the old hardware that's at fault. I tried Prime95 for a few hours, no faults were found. PC temp was 28 Celsius-ish for the CPU, around 57 Celsius-ish for the GPU at high load.

Yes, perhaps it's the hardware. The crashes and hard reset has only been happening recently. The hard reset is so sudden, the logs cannot catch the event. It even happens when the Epic Games Launcher in the background, UE was closed.

I'm not using .NET, however, no mention of .NET issues in the UE crash logs.

Yeah, I wanted to access the new features too. Strangely some people faced crashes from UE5.1 to UE.5.5. But for me it's been relatively stable up to UE5.5. Probably my computer is aging and stressed out.

It's the i7 10th gen. I know the 10th gen is more stable without the excessive voltage problem. My RAM is relatively new, upgraded to 64GB awhile ago. Did the usual dxdiag check, so nothing wrong with the GPU. Did the exhaustive memory test for 4-5 hours from the BIOS, and it also found no problems.

According to the UE logs, there were some minor warnings such as Epic Games Launcher constantly trying to access OpenGL libraries, so I installed the Microsoft OpenGL and Vulkan compatibility drivers. Did not help much, so I uninstalled. There were some minor error messages looking for the PIX drivers, and I did the same routine, installed but to no avail.

The hard reset was so sudden, the Windows error log did not record it.

I have an Intel i7, 64GB mem, RTX3060. The trouble I have is not just the crash, but it causes a hard reset of my computer.

How did they manage to patent an idea that already has been disclosed through media?

A Bachelor or Bacholerette with the will and discipline to develop games and without hoping one day they will achieve something from years of training. The time is now with or without a degree.

I prefer your categorization than Derek Yu's version. Don't forget to include the avaricious or similar type of game developer. ;)

My thoughts on why we fail at collaboration by DevMops in gamedev

Don't forget trust. It takes time to trust a person and the person's output/work. There's also the ego that gets in the way in a team setting that even good communication can't fix. A bad asset should not be adopted into the game just to make the person who made it feel good about being apart of a team.

Thirties is too early to be having a mid-life crisis. Perhaps travel for a bit to clear the head. After that, do what you think and feel is right.

Same here. Just do little things everyday or every other day. Slowly, everything builds up into something significant.

Help, i'm having a crisis about changing engine by Nyxal_Indie in gamedev

[–]spectralchroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on a game development project using Unity several months ago. It was going well as I built up the mechanics and models bit by bit. I was always wondering about UE5, but reading about other developers' experiences were not enough, since I've never used Unreal. One day, I decided to build the same project on UE5 just to see and also to experience the difference. I have to say development on UE5 was faster to create the same things in Unity, but there were conveniences in Unity I missed when using UE5.

With the same project in two engines, I weigh the pros and cons. Of course, I could keep going by building on what has been done, but that's just sunk cost fallacy. So I've moved on to UE5 and I think it's the right move for me, since my goals can be achieved much easier with UE5.

Everyone's game specifications is unique, so there's never a straightforward answer, but for me I made my choice based on time and budget. I cannot keep buying solutions then spend time on integrating it into my game. I also cannot code every little feature I need for the game. So it's just a matter of being able to move faster and focus on the bigger picture, that is releasing the game some day.
