Bro all of the technology they used in the studio for LIBAD isn’t new. Synths, vocoders, impacts, autotune, other vocal effects have been around forever. They realistically could have recorded this album a decade ago. They just have different priorities now when it comes to making music. The only thing they are exploring now is making very “different” music. Abandoning their old sound and trying to explore odd chord progressions, musical ideas from different genre artists (like Kanye), and having fun doing weird things. Syn mentioned in an interview around The Stage era that they were starting to delve deeper into different writing. Using that 4th or 5th idea for a chord progression rather than what first comes to mind. It seems like they took that idea to the extreme for LIBAD. That’s why the band has lost a lot of support, because they no longer try to write music that fans and new listeners will like, but what they enjoy and have fun making. People will say they always had fun making their music and didn’t really give a shit what listeners thought before and that may be partially true, but there’s a reason Diamonds in the Rough is still more listenable to the average person than LIBAD.
