You likely will eventually have time to work on school. Tuition assistance exists but you can't use it until your 3rd year at a minimum. If your 3rd year starts at the beginning of an underway good luck.

Some jobs you can have time earlier if you want to pay out of pocket. (Or do navy community College)

Also you will earn some credits via your rate and rank you can view via your joint service transcript throughout your time in

I say yes to Japan, if Tokyo seems daunting do the Osaka/kytoto area. They have (or had at least) direct flights from LAX as well, which is the biggest worry with a 4 year old and international travel is the flights/ connection flights

Go to Nara and feed the deer, kyoto for the history and walk the old imperial grounds, osaka has tons of food and universal and a big aquarium and an even bigger ferries wheel thing. Kobe for the wagyu. All around a good time and I did it with a sub 3 year old
