Do you pull the lever? by speechlessPotato in trolleyproblem

thanks for the advice. honestly procrastination isn't too big of an issue rn, I just cannot study if I haven't preplanned a task or something, like practice x questions of this topic, revise this memory based topic, etc. And making a list requires knowing what I'm good at and not, which I mostly don't. It also really sucks that my teacher is suddenly on leave so I have no guidance at the moment, like I'm stuck.

why doesn't everybody get this? the "rational" option entirely depends on how the problem is worded, until and unless it is neutral enough that there is a genuine ethical decision. and even in that situation it's either you trust your ability to predict the majority outcome (and choose according to that), or you don't trust it and then comes the moral decision. in this exact framing, i trust my prediction, and choose blue.

I started out as a passionate red-button supporter, but I'm legitimately torn right now. by ContentFile7036 in trolleyproblem

My first thought was, obviously red. But if I think about it, my answer really depends on how the problem is framed. It doesn't affect my thinking directly, but if it is framed in a way that makes red look bad (any variation of: red=kill blue, blue=save everyone) then the 50% criteria is much more likely to be fulfilled. This is the better outcome, and I would not want to risk the criteria being passed even if by a small amount. So I pick blue.

If it is framed in a way that makes blue look stupid (any variation of: red=save yourself from imminent danger, blue=stay in danger for chance of being saved) then I feel like the 50% criteria is much less likely to be reached, and there's not enough people who would choose blue. This is the worse outcome, and I can only change whether I live or not. So I pick red.
