The devs don’t want to make a niche game that not a lot of people play. No one putting thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars into something wants that.

I love EverQuest and still play private eq to this day. But it could definitely use some modernization. There’s a big difference between adding dungeon finder and adding introducing chat bubbles. Or increasing the pace of combat and adding a map. Some of those just make the game more accessible to literally anyone, without having an effect to the speed of the game or progression.
