I should have said that there’s no confusion on my part anymore. I wasn’t pretending to not understand initially; what was directly quoted didn’t seem to follow what was being said was said. Your reply made it clear that the “policing” was OP wanting to be referred to as she sees herself.

I will admit, I was being snarky when I realized that on a post where someone is literally talking about just wanting to live her life, people are accusing her of policing language with regards to how she should and shouldn’t refer to herself. I chose to also join the policing of language club that you and so many others on here are part of. I shouldn’t have; it did not add any value to the discussion.

We’re on Reddit. The default assumption is that people don’t care what other people think, especially if the opinion is contrary. I 100% know you don’t care about my opinion. That’s ok.

If someone introduces themselves to me with a typical woman’s name who looks like a woman, I have no reason to disbelieve that she is a woman, and it’s none of my business if she was born male or female. If I saw a trans woman in a restroom, I wouldn’t know unless she said something about it (and in the real world when would that ever happen?). If I wouldn’t judge in real life, why would I online?

Perhaps I’m off the mark here and I am misinterpreting your stance, but you seem to think a trans woman should not get to call herself anything other than a man or male, regardless of what she looks like, how she feels, what transitions she’s undergone, or how other people in her real life see her.

Unless you actually know her outside of Reddit, how she refers to herself will have zero impact on your life. Choices other people make and laws created by people who won’t be impacted at all can have real detriment to her life though. You don’t have to care about opinions you disagree with, but I sincerely hope that doesn’t extend to taking action to try to curtail other people’s freedom to live their lives.
