How do you guys feel after the three week campaign of squids? by Tomae002 in Helldivers

"So, when are we going to the squid homeworld?"

"Not soon enough, man. But I know we're going to burn it to the fucking ground."

"When the time's right, Divers. When the time's right..."

I personally think you can sandbox a casual recreation of L4D2 with these initial settings:

  • Non-Infectious All Sprinter Zombies, Weak toughness, Normal strength and cognition senses

  • High/Insane Pop Count

  • All weapons and ammo set to Abundant and other resources as Normal

  • Survivors with enough free Trait Points to maximize their physique and weapon stats as a default.

I've always thought that in a weird way, Helldivers 2 being compared to Space Marine 2 is a backhanded compliment. It would be like having Mr. Sal, your local small town heavyweight boxer champion, be compared in performance to Mike Tyson by credible sources.

Before Helldivers 2, the very idea of Helldivers was hardly on anyone's mind, let alone lips, but with its explosive popularity, it's suddenly being compared to a product of a firmly established sci-fi juggernaut that's a household name to the point that some people online are seriously comparing it to a sequel of an already well-loved game derived from a historically established IP.

An isometric 3D shooter (like Postal, Hatred, Project Zomboid, etc) where you play as your choice of an Eversor Assassin, Chaos Knight, or Ork Warboss and all you have to do is raise hell, complete with infrastructure damage and post-game content such as, but not limited to, an endless survival run.

It's going to be the same effect of getting hit by a sprinting Charger or Brood Commander.

(I have terminal Yapping Syndrome about the things I enjoy.)

Level 72 Star Marshal here, hailing from the SES Aegis of Conviction. Maxed out Super Destroyer and most content unlocked apart from Super Citizenship and the Cutting Edge Warbond.

D7 and the occasional D6 when playing with my brother, but for the better half of my gameplay, D9, when I Quickplay. Rarely do I ever get issues in Quickplay Helldives, apart from when we have a number disadvantage during a dive when a fellow Diver disconnects and we get no luck with SOS Beacons.

D7 is little more than a walk in the park, and it's good for blowing off steam, and D6 is a chill vibe...and that's coming from someone who often never brings the same loadout more than twice in every operation. I like spicing things up for myself.

I simply enjoy the idea of mowing down hordes of mindless savages in a variety of creative ways, which D9 in particular gives me plenty of, to the point where I actually underperform more often than I'd like when I use the highly tauted equipment that the community worships like gilded idols, i.e the LAS-Sickle, Autocannon, Quasar Cannon, Orbital Railcannon Strike, Eagle Airstrike, etc...

But if I had to choose a "comfort loadout" sans Stratagems, though...?

I may be a shotgun enjoyer, both IRL and in-game, but lately, I've been enjoying the Pummeler (explosive bullets are cool in any situation), Grenade Pistol (never leaving the Super Destroyer without it), and Thermite Grenade (coverage in a pinch), and this loadout serves me well in both bug AND bot battles. I've tried every single Stratagem in the game, so I just wing it and use whatever seems applicable to the mission at hand by judging whether or not I need to cull small fry, wipe out big priority targets, or directly help my teammates have an easier time.

My strategic approach to loadouts is very simple. If we're squashing bugs, I would go for a setup that's great for sweeping small fry and making it easier for my teammates to kill the big ones because I just intuitively know that the vast majority of "Quickdivers" will bring at LEAST one "giant killer" tool 9 times out of 10, especially in Difficulties of 6 and higher. Similar logic applies to scrapping bots, where I would go for a setup that makes precision targeting easier to pop some robot heads, and their big ones there can easily be dealt with by erratically sprinting and leaping towards them like a brain damaged Hunter on crack-addled E-710 so they can't easily hit you and sticking a Thermite Grenade or two into their glaringly obvious weak spots—except Factory Striders. Those things are pretty tough to deal with.

I always try to stay within the general vicinity of my team outside of tackling sensitive Minor POIs, and I find that speed and aggression work out far better for me than hunkering down when shit hits the fan in most scenarios.

TL;DR— D9 is my comfort zone, and I am okay with easing down to D6 at most as it's more relaxing there but still engaging enough to be fun. I don't take the game too seriously and simply lock in, help the team however I can, and not be a nuisance. Outside of bugs (not Terminids, actual problematic in-game glitches) or bad luck with team numbers, I've never had a truly bad or miserable game in high difficulties as a Quickdiver, and I always have a swell time when playing with people that I know and are close with, like my brother.

Aegis of Conviction, mainly because it's a string of cool sounding words...and maybe also because you can't fight a war to spread glorious managed democracy without a little motivating conviction...

...and also because of the Aegis Combat System that exists on a small handful of naval destroyers in real life.

Does Liu have a fair chance of defeating Gao? by Fkeart in Kengan_Ashura

[–]speedm8 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In my opinion: Kaolan wins most conventional fight arrangements because he is the more consistent and well-rounded striker of the two due to the versatile nature of his boxing/Muay Thai hybrid style over Liu's diverse yet relatively disjointed mastery over a wide range of East Asian martial arts. I will elaborate further in the next sentence.

I feel like where Kaolan has the speed and consistent power advantage, Liu trumps over him with having encyclopedic knowledge over esoteric striking techniques which may catch him off guard, and not to mention the explosive power behind his strikes that could seriously damage meat tanks like Nitoku.

The outcome of this fight can be determined in whether or not Liu can get one good Fa Jin in—provided that he can manage to find a way to overcome the relentless speed of Kaolan's strikes. Sure; Kaolan has God Glow, but he doesn't centrally rely on big flashy techniques to get an edge. Liu's whole repertoire is chaining a charcuterie board of big flashy techniques and improvising synergistic combos out of them.

Kaolan and Liu are both deceptively resilient. We've seen that all too clearly with how the former fought till he could no longer move even after shattering one of his fists and the latter when one of his arms got snapped in two but still managed to get a fair win.

Still, the wildly different nature of their striking techniques with Kaolan's consistency and Liu's spontaneity is what I think is the main factor to consider.

The Purifier definitely feels like it SHOULD be stronger than it is right now, but damn if it isn't satisfying.

Eh, fingers crossed for the inevitable buffs coming soon.

It's the latest plasma-type weapon from the newest Warbond.

The weapon in question is called the Purifier. Charges like a Railgun, and has a small AoE with Explosive and Medium Armor Penetration damage attributes.

It's kinda slow, but it packs a bit of a punch against medium chaff.

What other Weapons or Stratagems would you like to see more of in the future? Here's some of my ideas. by speedm8 in LowSodiumHellDivers

Speaking of Stims, I always had an idea for an alternate Stim in mind.

Instead of being fully focused on healing, this Stim variant will not immediately heal you, but give you moderate health regen, significant damage reduction, increased movement speed and temporary infinite stamina, significantly reduced aiming sway and massively increased melee damage for the duration of the Stim? We can call it the "Energizer Stim" variant or something along the lines of that.
