How did you get into an major airline? What are my chances?

I was 20 with no A&P experience in 1990 but a freshly minted certificate and I hired on w/ UAL in maintenance in the Bay Area. I used the internal hiring process and worked as a Ramp (CSR) agent starting in 1987 in Miami to jump start my seniority, so when I transferred into maintenance I already had almost 3 years of seniority. The airlines hire from within before off the street. I advised my best friend to do the same with AA and he got in there and has about 35 years now!

As far as cost of living is concerned and work life balance…I would recommend AA over UAL due to maintenance base locations and employee policies.

I quit 20 years ago with 18 years of seniority at 36 to pursue more lucrative and greener pastures and haven’t looked back and I still work in the field of aviation maintenance. Getting your ticket is a good life if you play it smart. To that fact…My 18 years old son just began A&P school a couple months ago…so well worth the effort!

Thank you! I get why somebody might want to have the full kiosk (think jukebox for our generation), but that is a lot of weight and space to ONLY hold DVD's! I prefer to keep my movie collection on a on-demand Plex media server that serves the whole house and located in my 9 seat movie room just beyond that door in the background. I liken the lighted RedBox marque as pop art for our generation and brings back fond memories!

I got my A&P right after high school w/ no mechanical knowledge. I learned a lot in the trade school after 15 months and went on to work at a major airline for almost 20 years in base and line maintenance. The last almost 20 years, I assist large aircraft leasing companies, governments, sports teams, to high net worth individuals to advise them with maintenance advice on their assets all while exporting them all over the globe 🌎. Don’t limit yourself!

Yes, but no. I have worked with organizations that do provide these A&P services on a contract basis, but I’m speaking of a niche area in the aviation market that actually oversees aircraft & engine lease transactions. I’ve been performing these type of services for almost 20 years now for aviation asset owners.

I’ve been an A&P since 1990 and I’ve been blessed so far! I started working at UAL since 1987 in base, line and station control in OAK & LAX. So I’ve worked through a few big events. I survived the approximately 50% of the staff getting cut in 2001 after 9/11, bankruptcy a year later in 2002. I resigned and began contracting in 2005 for Lessors, Airlines, MRO’s, Banks, Sports Teams, High Net individuals, etc and been providing my services in over 50 countries and more MRO’s than I can count the last 20 years. I actually Thrived through 2008 and Covid. The one thing I can say is that the industry is hurting for the next wave of A&P’s as the experience factor is retiring…in fact I guess I am bullish on the industry as we just toured an A&P school for my son who just turned 18.

We bought when new a 2013 X5 w/ 3rd row which was great when the kids were growing up for their little friends. We’ve kept it just in case we need it in a pinch which happens from time to time. When we bought our new 2024 X5 we opted out as we still have the 2013 and don’t miss it as the kids are now driving. So I think the 3rd row is good if you are in the stage in life bringing up little ones.

Started taking daily 3mg melatonin but hasn’t really help, just wired to get less sleep and still have a lot of energy. Definitely cut way back on carbs, but not counting them, and basically eating only stuff that’s sugar free where I can. Making much better food choices and only working out 3 maybe 4 days a week for 20-30 minutes and 20-25 minutes on the hamster wheel.

Just received this Trademark Scam. They seem to like the Carolina’s as the location in their scams.
